I was with Shell for years (as a former First Utility customer) until I switched a few months back to PP as Shell’s offset tariffs weren’t very competitive.  Never had any issues with them.

Looks like I made the wrong choice in hindsight when I switched!
  • I was only with Green for electricity, but Shell are charging their ex customers

Their Flexible 6 tariff. Rates are variable, but fixed until the next price cap review on 1st April 2022.

    There are no exit fees.

    Unit rate per kwh  20.076p

    Stdg chg per day  26.82p

    That assumes payment by DD.

    Don't know about gas.

Remains to be seen what happens with final Green bills and credit balances, and the timescale. Ideally before April...

Running those numbers against some old usage figures for a year, the electricity price is only £80 off what we would have paid for gas and electricity combined with Pure Planet.

I suppose we'd have ended up in the situation sooner rather than later, as our fix ended in January, but still. This is going to hurt.

@MWT A good point, well made. Probably. Just trying to be helpful, and give a heads up. But as usual...

What's the usual margin of regional variation? Has anyone ever done an analysis?

Based on Ofgem's cap numbers, it's very roughly 5% difference between cheapest and most expensive gas, and 8% for electricity.

Very roughly, 23-27p on the standing charge, and 20-22p on the kWh for electricity

Gas has a much smaller regional variation.

  • The rate I quoted was for Yorkshire/Northern Powergrid then, presumably. I don't know where that sits compared to other regions.

Northern ranks at the high end on the standing charge (12th out of 14)  and 5th out of 14 on units.
Under the cap rules though the suppliers can opt to set the standing charge a little lower to allow them to put the unit price a little higher.

Well, I've had my welcome mail from Shell Energy.
Following the closure of Pure Planet, Ofgem, the industry regulator, has appointed us to manage your energy supply from Sunday 17 October.
We look forward to welcoming you on board, and are working closely with Ofgem and Pure Planet’s administrator to make the switch as smooth as possible for you.
There won’t be any break in your energy supply and any credit balance you have will be safe and protected. We’ll be in touch soon with more information, so there’s no need to call or email us.
    Your new energy tariff
You’re moving onto our standard variable tariff, which includes 100% renewable electricity* as standard. The average price of this tariff, based on a medium-sized UK household, using Ofgem’s national average consumption rates, is £1,277 per year†.

This is the cheapest tariff we have available, given today’s wholesale costs. This tariff is protected by Ofgem’s price cap and rates are fixed until 1 April 2022, when the price cap will be revised. This tariff has no exit fees.
    Stay up to date
Visit our blog, where we’ll be posting regular updates. You’ll find answers to frequently asked questions in the Help section of our website.
The Pure Planet team is still available for chat and general service queries under ‘help’ in your existing Pure Planet app or online account.
    What happens next?
Please don’t cancel your Direct Debit. We’ll be in touch with more information about payments soon.
You should have received an email from Pure Planet asking you to update your meter reads on their app or online account. To make your switch as smooth as possible, please do this as soon as you can.
If you’re unable to submit a meter reading right now, please make a note or take a picture of your meter reading(s) and keep these somewhere safe. We’ll be requesting them at a later stage. Here’s how to read your meter.
    Switching supplier
Once you’ve switched to Shell Energy, you’re free to stay with us, or move to another supplier. But you can’t move until your switch is complete. If you decide to leave, we won’t charge you any exit fees.
But we hope you’ll stay – we think you’ll like it here at Shell Energy.

I submitted meter readings to Pure Planet on the 15th and took pictures, but will do another now too.
