I am still stumped as to what has caused me to get into almost £300 worth of debt, molerat said:To be honest the actual consumption does not seem that bad.Your monthly DD was too low.Heating and water heating use the most energy. If you have a shower do you need the water heater switched on? Long showers can add up. Fridges and freezers can be surprisingly expensive. Assuming you have led lights and a modern tv these are only a small part of your bill.

I switched my cooker off last night, left fridge on and showered this morning. Usage on meter hasn't moved.Norman_Castle said:Silverlining28 said:Yes electric heating but I've had it switched off since April. No storage heater running just TV left on standby and my phone plugged into charge up.
My current tariff isFix 1 Year v6
Fridge, cooker, shower?
So where's the fridge getting power from? Reading taken before or after the shower? Is that a smart meter? I haven't got one but is it possible to see usage charts online for your account?

You might have missed my post but the change happened when you switched from the variable rate to the foxed rate in April 2021. I suspect there was a mix-up then. If you contact E.ON they might be able to switch you back to the E7 version of your tariff.Silverlining28 said:
I've not changed anything. Unless E-on have switched me over.molerat said:First thing that jumps out is that you changed from E7 standard tariff to single rate fixed plan - why ? The standard tariff was actually costing you less ! To be honest the actual consumption does not seem that bad.

Communal cupboard yes, three meters for the three flats on my floor.molerat said:I have re written my post above but asked the question is the meter actually inside your flat or in a communal cupboard ?Actual consumption is rarely wrong, most problems come from wrong meters, unsuitable tariffs and incorrect usage of high consumption items. You need to check if the meter that you think is yours is actually the one connected to your flat.Turn on as many things as you can in the flat - the cooker is a good one as well as any plug in heaters then go and see which meter has a little red flashing light going bonkers then turn them all off and check the meter has calmed down.

This is the bit that is looking odd for me...
That is a high proportion of total power used on the '02' register (which is usually night on a smart meter) and a tiny amount on the other register. On the other-hand, in total it is a small amount, and the meter readings appear to be accurate so the priority remains to get back onto an E7 tariff.0 -
The "night" use is roughly 5kWh/day, which would be consistent with an electric water heater (something like this) running overnight on cheap rate as intended.MWT said:This is the bit that is looking odd for me...That is a high proportion of total power used on the '02' register (which is usually night on a smart meter) and a tiny amount on the other register. On the other-hand, in total it is a small amount, and the meter readings appear to be accurate so the priority remains to get back onto an E7 tariff.

True, but I think we have still not had a good description of just how the water is heated, so would be good to confirm, but if accurate it leaves the 'day' usage at little more than 1kWh/day which seems remarkably low...QrizB said:

As I said previously I'm very rarely in, either being at work or going to mum and dad's every other week. I don't cook that often and nor do I watch much tele. The only appliance which I can see using alot of energy is my washer/dryer. But dads told me to dry my clothes on a clothes horse to keep costs down.MWT said:
