Morning all, just a real quickie as I have to get ready to go to Birmingham (will be sleeping in the car, don't worry!). BB, thanks for the chart, I lost 3.5 this week though. Victory, I can understand your difficulty if carbs were your 'downfall' but cutting them out will be creating an unbalanced diet for yourself (with potential long-term side effects). The good people at WW presumably spent a long time perfecting their plan, and if possible it would be good to follow it so you can get all the healthy things you need, carbs included. This isn't meant to sound harsh at all, can't get my words out properly this morning. Perhaps in time, having some rather than none will be enough so you don't want the 1 or 2 platefuls? I know it's a minefield but you will get there; sometimes we have to be brave and experiment with our demons from time to time, to see if we can come into better relationship with them.
Take care all, will post while I'm away if I can xx

Bails, congratulations on your brill loss this week! It doesn't matter that part of it was a gain from last week! Hope Birmingham goes OK, business or pleasure?

BB, congrats on your loss, I wish it wasn't because you're not feeling right though. Hope it continues when you're feeling better!

Wilroda, great to hear from you! I bet you feel fabulous! What's the plan now, are you going to go for a bit more of a loss or just maintain? Anyway a massive well done for tackling those issues so head-on!

Suggs I hope the Friday weigh ins work better for you, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does graphs & things :p I plotted my weight loss and waist loss on line charts this week, trying to make sense of it because it just seems so slow compared to others!

I have to admit I hop on the scales most days at the moment too, although the only weight I record is the weekly one. This is my 8th consecutive day of keeping my calorie intake up at 1200! I really feel as though I am eating too much and exercising too little, but the scales are smiling so I'm sticking with it! I also really enjoy working out how I will get to 1200 each day, weighing all the portions and so on. I guess that novelty will wear off soon enough :D (eating my way through the day's allowance won't though - ha!)

Delly thanks for your follow up post, it's handy that the supposed "side effects" are something of a positive thing for you! Did your post op check go OK?

Congrats to everyone else who's lost weight this week and Retired Lady as SOTW!

Vixarooni, maybe time for some new scales?! :D (Or a battery change?) Every time I hear someone say they will "weigh themselves in boots" I think of them standing on the scales in their black leather knee-highs, haha :D

Sorry Julesgr :p I wasn't implying anything, honest! ;) Hope you had a good trampoline sesh! Well done on maintaining this week.

Victory, I'm not much of a cooking expert and I know nothing about WW but your body needs carbs, I wish there was something I could say that might help. Can you really get no enjoyment from smaller amounts? I'm a bit of a carbie myself as I don't like a lot of veg, but I keep the carb portions down and raise the protein side if poss.

Argh, why do my catch up posts always get so LONG! You can all wake up now, I'm off to do something else!

I know you are right but I am very harsh on myself, i PANIC AND think a gain is going to bring me right back to where I started, take it out of context and destroy my mind by the suffering I give it and the plan to get rid of it sharpish, infact I know it is wrong but I am getting weighed again at boots this morning on the way to work because I can't bear it, I feel in my mind everyone can see the gain, my clothes won't fit anymore, I feel the pressure from all around now as the compliments and comments have stopped obviously because now people see me as this, normal and the clothes I wear and they expect me to be like this, as well as my H and kids.

I watched Gok last night and the lady had lost 6 stone but still saw herself large, dressed in large clothes, could not connect with her body and that she could look good, at the end she does and goes on to walk down the catwalk, Gok said to her yes you did weight 6 more stone but that has gone now, finished, if only that was so easy, I have had a hard time with myself, I am getting better and can go clothes shopping and the buzz that I can go into all the shops keeps me driven but every day I think it is going to come back, i AM going to !!!!!! it up for myself and the old eat as much as you can in a day Victory will come back and destroy it all for me.

Victory, your not alone with those feelings, those are exactley the same feelings I have myself :)

I think all of us worry about this side of losing weight - as many of us have lost a lot of weight before, and the fact that we are here means that we didn't successfully maintain. But half the battle is surely being aware of your food intake, the other half (smaller half??? :) ) is actually making sure we do something about it.
  • Gosh, there's so much honesty here today, and so much support - long may it continue! I don't think I can say much to Delly that many others haven't already said and said well. I really hope the reductil works for you. Have to say, your very eloquent post about how it works for you has made me wonder whether i ought to talk to my gp too. My problem too is binge eating - i can't even call it comfort eating really as I just eat because I like it. My meals all tend to be healthy and I've gone in for low fat food in a good way; it's just the munching and the gorging thats the problem.

ROFLing at Pet's extreme weight loss technique. And awwwwwing at the angel.

Went for dinner with the WI last night which was nice although i know more about hot flushes now than anyone my age ought to. They all got a bit squiffy and sang Jerusalem which was really funny.

Just heard on the news that Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with Alzheimers - made me put my own weight loss problems into perspective. Such a talented and imaginative man, to be facing that . . . I actually sat and cried.

victory, You are really facing your demons, we have faith that you will do it. You too Suggs!

On a bit of a lighter note (literally), I am once again shopping for trousers  fed up with hoiking 'em up!

Since I previously found 3 pairs that were just about perfect in my now-former size (after trying on more than 20 pairs) I thought I'd avoid the shops and just order the next size down online.

Except DP's are out of stock of them in my size and Debenhams I already HAD the smallest size! Well, this is a new experience, clothing ranges that START too big for me!

Taken a gamble and ordered 3 pairs from somewhere else. Oh, and added a pair of boots too. Then treated myself to a massage cushion.

Looks like it's not dieting that's out the window for me for Christmas, but money saving's gone to pot :p

Victory, although I have lots more weight to lose I can completely understand what you're saying.

As with so many others I've lost significant amounts of weight in the past and then put it all back on, each time drifting gradually off the healthy eating regime. Loooking back though I think I know why it went wrong. I'm an all or nothing person, strict with myself to lose the weight but then thinking I can eat 'normally'. I decided I wasn't dieting so I didn't need to weigh myself (I'm a closet every day weigher :o ... phew I've admitted it). By the time the clothes got too tight it was too late, so I didn't bother to do anything .... you can finish the story.

So this time I'm going to give myself some leeway ... maybe 5lbs up or down from where I want to realy be, and continue to weigh every day. I'll eat 'normally', whatever that is, then go back to the strict regime when the scales leap up. I don't know if it'll work, obviously, but at least this time I think I've got a plan.

I can totally relate to this - I too stop weighing myself when I have stopped dieting and the weight creeps on and on when I take my eye off the ball. This is why I was saying that thinking about what you eat (and keeping an eye on the scales) will be half the battle for maintaining. I have never maintained - this will be my biggest challenge yet!

    Thanks Brightonbelle for the chart.

It was the Gillian McKieth diet that was supposed to be specially designed for my needs. I ate breakfast and then went out and ended up buying bread rolls in town because I was so hungry and light headed.

Well done beanielou on getting so close to your target

Has anyone tried Paul McKennas weight loss plan. My friend has been learning about EFT (tapping) which Paul uses and now can't eat a chocolate biscuit and she is really thin. She was only watching someone else having it done to them. I know that it can be used to prevent you from eating certain foods like cake or cheese. I love cheese. It is my downfall but would hate to be prevented from eating it for ever. dellybelly and jules my GP wants me to go on the Xenical but I take about 30 tablets/capsules a day already and definitely don't need something else that makes me feel sick.

Well done brightonbelle, emmalis, bails, efrieze pixiedust & grannynise
