I had read (Sorry this link does not seem to work:  https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-lcd-tvs/kdl-26ex320/articles/00178923) that some Sony TVs not longer supported BBCiPlayer - it was no longer certified although Sony were looking into remedying this.  It is also reported on this Forum. I copied this from Sony UK website: 

"From 10th March 2021, the BBC has made the decision to remove iPlayer on some older Sony TVs due to performance issues. ..."

I was conscious of this when looking for a replacement television, anotheruser.

Update:  John Lewis delivered and installed the TV yesterday - great service.  Early signs, as I'm still getting used to it, are really good. BBC iPlayer and subtitles are great.

Although a 2018 model, this TV is a good one for me.

Thank you all, again, for  the really helpful information given here - it is really appreciated.
