All this is extremely helpful, thank you very much.

I have tried to find the difference between Samsung QE43Q65A (John Lewis) and QE43Q60A (Richer Sounds) as both seem support BBC iPlayer - thanks for helpful link, Rodders53.

It can be a bit mind boggling (as EssexExile explained)and it seems to be something to do with ? Bezel but I'm not sure if any difference would be significant - I could not see anything about Bezel in the John Lewis or Richer Sounds specifications.

I hope I can still use my Humax Freeview box with this TV but will need to check.

I am now 'armed' with very much better information (for when I go into town to look) than I ever had before (and always eager to learn more - within my capabilities) so huge thanks to you all again.

  • Don't get too hung up about 4k/UHD if it is not on your radar and you want it, and most stuff you watch is aerial fed HD. And if anyone tries to flog you a new HDMI lead claiming better picture etc. , tell them to jog on. The snake oil is strong on that sales pitch.

Most panels are 4k now but they display standard HD very well. Ask at the shop for a demo in HD.
  • That is really helpful to know and to keep in mind, thanks, half_empty.  I'll add that to my lttle list when I go into the shop.

If you are going bigger what about full HD instead of just HD ready (it's not a 2021 model) ?

After a lot of thought, mjm3346, and lots of good information on this forum, I eventually decided that this Sony KDL43WF663 television would be suitable for me.  It is a 2018 model with, as far as I know, no BBC iPlayer.

I kept changing my mind and, after a lot of indecisiveness, I am pleased with my decision. Thank you very much, all, for your answers on this forum and the time given to reply.

Once I get used to this television (being delivered next week by John Lewis) I'll look into the options for BBC iPlayer.

Your TV will have BBC iPlayer (taken from the John Lewis website):

    Freeview Play
This Sony TV features Freeview Play. Combining catch-up TV, on-demand services and live TV channels, watching what you want, when you want, is now easier than ever. It's free from subscription and is compatible with existing broadband services too. Services such as BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and Demand 5 are also available without having to open specific applications. This will give effortless scroll back so you never miss a second of your favourite shows

Hold on a few days there may be some good Black Friday offers about.  I know Richer Sounds sent me an email this morning with their deals.  That tv isn’t 4K by the way, but if you don’t have any 4K input or channels then don’t worry.
  • Thanks very much Mister_G and PZ19.

I'm very pleased about the BBCiPlayer, Mister_G and that information is really welcome so thank you for copying it for me.

I don't  have any 4K input or channels, PZ19, and, although this TV is not as advanced as the more recent ones, I'm sure it will be O.K. for me.

Understood, there’s 4K content on Amazon prime and Netflix if you subscribe to any of those, my point was there would be 4K TVs at that price from other manufacturers. Just as a future proof thing more than anything. The main thing is that you are happy, and you are right it will be absolutely fine for you, can’t go wrong with Sony, enjoy it.  Be aware though once I got my smart tv, I seem to be spending hours finding interesting stuff on YouTube.  😂😂
  • Thanks very muchPZ19.  Once I'm used to the special features I'll be really pleased ... Although I am in the slow lane ... I have to, or at least try to, move with the times!

I have heard that some Sony TVs don't have bbc iplayer now although my present older Sony smart TV has bbc iplayer.
    Where did you hear this?
And why do you think a newer TV wouldn't have a particular app for a large part of the BBC's output?

All Sony TVs these days will have the iPlayer app.

If you see anything about it being a Google / Android TV, it'll have all the apps you'll need for TV viewing.
