Symbio new supplier

Got mine last night. My DD with Symbio was £80 month and it covered my annual leccy consumption of 7500kwh. For the same consumption with Eon it's now going to be £145.
We've done pretty well over the past ten years hopping from one cheap deal to the next, I reckon we've save sevreal thousands over that time so we'll just have to take a bit of pain until it settles down, hopefully next spring. However I guess it's going to be pretty tough for a lot of people having their energy bills nigh on double on top of all their other costs.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers3 -
The DD they set based on "2-3 bedrooms" was just above what I was paying at Symbio so upped it by £20 ! So beware as you will likely get into debt and get a big increase in DD after their first review unless you set the DD to something sensible.1

I've calculated my DD based on my estimated annual consumption/12 but I know I'll be using a lot more than EAC/12 in the next few months and a lot less in the summer, it's about 65% between now and the end of March and 35% betweeen April and October, so I suspect that they'll get a bit twitchy. .
Unfortunately the worst time of year to set up a new DD is November/December as it's the beginning of the heating season. My SYMBIO account was in credit by about £100 in anticipation of winter coming and it would have been a bit more if they'd taken the October DD but would have balanced out come May/June next year.
However I'll keep my beady eye on it, send in readings (or they'll suck them off the smart meter, if they can get it working like SYMBIO did), check my account and then check and save my monthy bills like I've always done. (I'll also keep a buffer in the bank just in case they get a bit stroppy)

The discount will presumably result in the prices given in the table here for payment by direct debit https://assets.ctfassets.net/gmgnreshss7h/6WrFfQKiuMYJ0YGRCpml5j/9e500c91845c5e72e94219d6bed47141/Next_Flex_Credit.pdf
They have presumably given the higher rates for non-DD payments in their email to encourage us to set up a DD mandate.1 -
The cap has three price levels - paying by DD (the cheapest), paying on recipt of a bill (the most expensive) and pay go (in the middle).
They aren't really giving you a discount as such, because they aren't allowed to charge you more than the cap level related to the method of payment. payment by DD has to be cheaper than paying on receipt of the bill.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers2 -
Thanks, if that's the case then, for me...Daily standing charge: 28.327p >> 23.770p = 16% discountUnit rate: 21.400p >> 20.316p = 5% discountThat's actually a decent discount that's worth having. I guess this discount is dictated by the cap, both prices are actually the capped price for each payment method.1

Anyone been given details about eon paying back overpayments? Seems it's all about setting up DD to pay eon but not heard much about us getting our money back from paying too much to Symbio!1

I can confirm that the 28.327p + 21.4p prices above from the price list are exactly as stated by Eon in their email to me, from before I signed up for direct debit. The lower 23.770p + 20.316p prices are now stated by their website in the comparison if I look at the fixed options. So the DD discount is genuinely 16% on the standing charge plus 5% per unit (for me, check your own area in the price list), so definitely worthwhile. And I agree, it's somewhat rude of them to talk only about how we should pay them without even mentioning the big fat elephant in the room that is the vast amount of money that Symbio stole from its customers.1
