I'm so relieved Symbio has finally gone under
Well I'm not I was on a fixed deal till march 31st next year......they were cheapest around some people detested them me personally never had a problem with them
Yes, me too, my contract was until end of February. Sad to see them go but from comments on this board I did see that an exit in these circumstances might be a smoother process than switching away from them in the regular way.
I doubt it after looking at electric rates......its going to be a big increase

I wasn't talking about money - just the process of leaving Symbio and joining another supplier in an orderly mannner.

I started the switch from igloo to neon reef yesterday (before the closure announcement) - Will it still go ahead?

I had a BIG credit on my igloo account - Will this be transferred to neon reef, or does the SOLR have to refund it to me?

If the latter, how difficult will this be as the SOLR won't see me as its customer?

Your credit refund will find its way back to you via the SoLR, but it will probably take a few months as ex-customers are usually the last ones to be sorted out.
If you only started the switch yesterday it is not certain that it will go through, especially given how inactive Neon Reef have been recently....

  • I've read that you perhaps shouldn't cancel your direct debit but my account is quite a bit in credit.

What I don't want is all the screenshots and bills I have now to show a different credit balance for Igloo to just take another payment right before switching and then have the hassle of claiming it back.

The advice is as I've just read up on it, you can cancel your DD. Once they cease trading they shouldn't take any more payments.
I cancelled my DD yesterday as soon as I got the email from Igloo. The next payment would have been due around 13th October, had confirmation from Igloo that it's now cancelled.
So when when my next energy supplier has been appointed it will arrange a direct debit of it's own, I await the next step in this process. I had around £127 in credit, that should eventually find its way back onto any new account set up with the new company although it could take a while, not immediately I read.🤨

It's a shame this has happened, over 4 years with Igloo not a bit of trouble everything went smoothly until this week.
I liked them, they never pushed me into paying over the odds on the DD. I adjusted my own DD to suit, having enough in reserve to cover the next bill. It worked well and I think a good deal of customers these days not only with Igloo but them all really should take a look at what credit they built up. Some go into the hundreds, shouldn't need to be like that, £500 in one case I read, blimey  that's nearly 9 months worth of gas and electric usage for me.😵 Yep others may have different circumstances but hey don't get too OTT with this in credit thing

Well Igloo were paying 3% "interest" which is better than any bank...I let them set my DDs, never bothered adjusting them, probably too high but it's usual to build up credit over the summer anyway, currently over £500. It's supposedly protected...we'll see.

"Once they cease trading they shouldn't take any more payments."

Oddly enough, I received an e-mail from "Igloo" this morning. It informed that my last payment will be taken by DD on 1st October.
Oh no it won't the DD was cancelled yesterday!

I left Symbio a couple of months ago, and they never sent me a final bill. Now they've gone bust I can't go to the ombudsman, and because I'm not actually a Symbio customer now the company that takes them over probably won't speak to me. I predict annoying hassle ahead.
Hoping someone can confirm the position with that.  I switched to Symbio last week from Orbit Energy, but given what's been going on, I wouldn't be surprised if Orbit are the next company to go bust.  They owe me around £250 in credit, which from previous experience can take around 6 weeks to get back, but they might not be here in 6 weeks.  If that's the case, do I get my money back, and if so, from who?

I’d check your account, as dd’s are usually applied for a few days early, so it might still have been allocated
