Day 2 covid test

  • £20 at Eurofins ...I just had a day2 test today...The catch is you have to go there in person. Only available at three sites Heathrow, Livingstone and Warrington.
  • Possibly some but what if you contract it on a packed plane? If you do test positive then test and trace might alert those who were sitting near you which is why you need your seat number for the PLF.
Test and Trace contact all passengers on a plane when there is a positive day 2 result.  They advise you to get a further PCR test.  If you are double jabbed you do not need to isolate.  Seat numbers on the PLF are irrelevant as many people change seats after take off.  People still move about the plane to use the toilet etc.

Not at all doubting you as it sounds very credible and relates to a recent experience I've had where I was contact by T&T but how do you know that is the case?
  • I've done 16 PLFs in total and not done a seat number yet so it's not required.

I have been looking around for a approved day 2 testing kit for the cheapest price but nothing coming up. What sites are people using? i need to book one in the next few days. thanks
I think I mentioned this on another post but you don't need to have bought the day 2 test before you leave the UK. You can only fill in your return passenger locator form within 48hrs of your flight to the UK so you need to be able to get online. You can order the day 2 test kit just before filling in the PLF as the number you need comes with the order confirmation email not the kit. That way, if the UK switch to Lateral Flow before you return you can buy the LF test kit.

I'm returning from a green country on 24th Oct, so i order the test while i'm abroad for home delivery after i get back to get the order number to fill in the PLF ? Is that correct ?

    Thanks

What happens if you don't take the test when you get back and how quickly ?
According to legislation you are at risk of fines and prosecution.

On a moral level, in a worse case scenario someone could die as a result of a positive case coming into the UK and not isolating. We need to think about more than ourselves in this situation.
If you have not got to take it until two days after returning and shortly not got to take a test before coming back won't the damage have already been done in the intervening period ?
I have always taken it on the day of arrival to UK and will continue to do so.

Far less risk this way with a fast turnaround. Just because you can wait doesn't mean everyone does.

Correct if your double vaxxed, though the rules may allow for a LFT instead of PCR by your date.

Sorry your sentence can be read that you are suggesting filling in the PLF after you have arrived back in the UK.

You need to fill in the PLF within 48hrs prior to returning to the UK and you need to input the 'reference' of the test kit that you have bought when you fill in the PLF. When you order the 2 day test kit the confirmation email will have the reference you need to enter on your PLF. The test kit should get posted to you and be awaiting your return to the UK.

The above is for info only and is similar to what I shall do returning to the UK on the 20th. You can buy the 2 day test kit before you leave or when you are abroad and if you buy a PCR and it changes to lateral flow I'd hope you can still use the PCR. If the UK Gov (England only?) hadn't said they were changing the test 'later this month' I'd buy one before I leave but being a tight wad if I can save 20p on a test I will.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the poor English.
Yes i did realise i'd get the number for the PLF when i ordered the test while i'm away.
So i could order the 2 day kit now ? Or should i wait and see if the rules change to lateral flow ?
I wonder if the Gov. lateral flow tests will be OK ?

    Cheers

No problem - it wasn't your English it was just that the sentence could be interpreted different ways.

You could order the day 2 test now and make sure you take the relevant number with you. The NHS test kits cannot be used and I don't see that changing.

Should I wait? - I cannot advise as that is up to you. Some people will be happy to wait and order at the last minute and others will find that too stressful and will want to order the kits before they leave the UK.
