Well, we got sidetracked into the cafe at lunchtime, but just had coffee and a piece of toasted banana bread.  We had porridge for breakfast and tonight we are having veggie bean burritos from the Hairy Bikers Everyday Winners cookbook.

Its been very dull all day and now its almost dark.

I have my crock pumpkin in the window ready to light and my trick or treat sweets all ready.  I will also wear a headband with some pumpkins on it when I answer the door!  Tonight I'll be getting plenty of exercise up and down - the joys of living in a small village!

  • Ooh banana bread sounds lovely. I have a nice recipe for banana loaf. Not made it for a while as I never seem to have enough over ripe bananas left....lol.  Must give it another go & try it toasted.  Enjoy your Halloween trick or treaters....lol

Busy Tuesday and Wednesday, shopping, dropping stuff off at the dump and charity shop, cooking etc.

Weather horrible today, rainy and windy.  Haven’t done too much except knit and listen to audio books.

Breakfast was toasted teacake, lunch we had stew and dumplings and tonight we’ll just have some toast if we feel hungry.

DS is coming tomorrow and staying till Tuesday so that will involve driving to the station to pick him up.  Can’t wait to see him.

This morning we went to a dolls house fair nearby and I bought a conservatory for £15 ready made up.  The kit alone costs over £100 so a real bargain.  I now just have to get on and finish the dolls house!  DH has adapted it so there is a basement and an attic – using some bits of plywood etc.,  It is our winter project – we have had it almost 6 years and it is coming along slowly!

Breakfast was toasted teacake, lunch veggie cobbler and tonight we are making chicken curry with Bombay potato, rice and naan bread.

DS is here which is really nice, he goes back Tuesday.

DS went back yesterday, so a few spendy days as we had takeaway etc.  Back to normal now!

I’m going out with two girlfriends for Christmas cocktails in December.  My first thought was “I need a dress” – but I raided my wardrobe with an open mind.  I have a long black dress with a lovely sparkly back – only worn twice and that was years ago, so I got the overlocker out and I have taken it up – chopped 12” off the bottom and now it’s a lovely re-purposed cocktail dress.  I know that I will use it far more as a short dress than I did as a long one – so I’m now good to go for the Christmas season.

I also made some teackakes ready for toasting for breakfasts.

A quick run round with the hoover as well and a load of washing done.

Weather quite mixed today, woke up to torrential rain, but now we have sunshine, but its very windy and there is now that wintry bite in the air.

DH is out at the moment, once he gets back we may go for a walk.

Breakfast was porridge with berries, lunch one of the teacakes I made and tonight its sausage pasta bake.

My friend gave me some lovely chanterelle mushrooms which she had foraged.  She gave me loads, so this morning I made mushroom pasta bake – it actually made up 10 portions so I have frozen them.  As a result we were low on milk so went to Sainsbogs to get milk and butter.  Well, I am not sure what happened but there was so much stuff with yellow stickers it would have been a sin not too.  So freezer is well stocked.  We also got a garlic and parsley whole chicken in a bag for £3.49 so tonight we are having a roast chicken dinner.  My freezer is now full to bursting.

Breakfast was home made toasted teacake and lunch was soup.

  • You are very talented being able to alter your dress. Bet it looks amazing.  What is the recipe for the teacakes? I love teacakes and would love to make my own. I do lots of baking but never tried teacakes. Presume they freeze well?

I use a Paul Hollywood recipe and it never fails.  I do make mine a bit bigger and get around 6 or 7 per batch.  They freeze very well.  Keep an eye on them as they do quite quickly.  They take about 12 mins in my fan assisted oven.  I use dried yeast 3 teaspoons and I don't bother to waste an egg by doing an eggwash for the top I just bake them as is.

Ooh brilliant, thanks. I'll give them a try.
