I have a smet 1 meter that has been dumb for ages. I read somewhere that the smet1's didn't need to be replaced they could be upgraded with an update?

I think these would be good questions to put directly to Octopus.

Will I be able to get a single rate electricity smart meter and will it be SMETS 2.
Is the type I want agreed in advance with the supplier as I understand a contracted firm does the switching of the meters.
Smart meters have four registers and are able to support up to four different rates. They are configured to use the correct number by your supplier.
If your property is suitable for a smart meter, Octopus will fit a SMETS2 one.

I'm having the same problem as others.  Original advice seemed to be to cancel DD with Avro so I did.  Then new advice seemed to be don't cancel DD with Avro!!  Set up DD with Octopus but nothing has come out as yet, so last bill with Avro in September and nothing paid since.  Was going to make a one off payment but as my Octopus account shows very little bar meter readings I didn't want to risk any one off payment going into cyber space!  So somewhat concerned I am now two months down on payments.  Was £180 in credit with Avro but no idea if/when I will see that.  In the meantime I have had heating off as much as poss and wear a coat indoors as I have no idea how I will afford these new sky high prices on a low wage.  Hanging curtains over porch door to try and limit draughts but getting pretty bad condensation in bathroom and bedroom despite double glazing, probably because the house is so cold, but what do you do?!!!  What I will suggest is watch things like a plugged in PC.  I've been taking regular readings and my PC was in repair for three weeks.  Between 27th October and 5th November without my PC I used 35 units of electricity.  Got my PC back and have always left it on and noticed between 5th November and 11th November I had used 65 units.  Nearly double but for less days!!!  It's a nightmare.

My meters are SMETS1, they were originally installed by EDF, never worked when I switched to Avro but since being transferred to octopus my smart electricity meter has suddenly come back to life and is currently sending readings however my gas meter is still acting dumb and says I need to input my readings, I might leave it a little while see if it updates itself and if not then I'll contact octopus

That's great to know. On another point about dd's . There was nothing to show what my dd would be , but when I clicked on old webpage I was able to access the set your dd. I set it and a note popped up to say 1st payment on 1st of the month. Will wait and see how it goes?

Unfortunately, 580,000 switches all at once does take time. We are all becoming a little frustrated with the delay but we are all having to just suck it up.
I'd be a little happier if my account with Octopus was at least showing the meter readings that I sent to them at the end of September. The direct debits and who owes what to who I can wait for. But despite the emails telling me that I have now moved over the them, my online account is showing absolutely nothing.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I cancelled my Avro DD shortly after they went bust, they had already taken my September DD on the 6th, I set up a new DD on octopus site and it came up with the same date and amount as I was paying Avro, I think it takes a while to set up as octopus didnt take their DD on 6th of october but a few weeks later it said my payment would be taken on 6th of November, this payment has now gone out but it was taken on the 8th as the 6th fell on a weekend

My account only shows my address, meter numbers and the DD payment/date inherited from Avro.
I rather think all other info will not materialise until Avro have issued final bills and Octopus can issue its first statements.

Try clicking on the take me back to the old dashboard [for now] atthe bottom of the home page. It shows far more info than the one that is their new page?
