  • DH's work have said they'd rather we didn't go but that he has their full support to work remotely from uk.  SO, we now have the option at least.  Just spoke to my mother and she does not sound convinced we should go.  But it's not her life.

Spending today has been £22 on nappies for DC1.  Didn't make it for the snack run post-park as left home too late!

Bumped into DH's aunt in the park who started preaching about how we should stay here and why.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!
  • People will always want to influence your choices to suit them. I live in the North East of England but I am not from the UK. When I was much younger, just before I met my husband, my uncle rang me, telling me I should go back home. I made all the appropriate noises and then did as I pleased (as he did when he was younger living and working in various foreign countries).

Had I followed his advice, I wouldn’t have my lovely daughter, her partner who I love like my son, and my gorgeous, adorable grandson. I don’t know what my life would have been, but it wouldn’t have been this one, and I love this one.

What I’m trying to say is what you said in your post: it’s your life. Do as you please.

  • Hi Rebecca,
Yes I do but I had fallen off the face of the earth the last few months so I am just starting up again. No idea how to link I am afraid but if you pop on my profile its hopefully there.  :)

  • @BellaLasagna2018 - yes, that makes sense.  And I guess its a bit like Sliding Door/Midnight Library in that, certain choices lead you down different paths and ultimately to different futures.

@Lookafterthepennies2020 - I had a look yesterday but need to catch up properly so will pop over and say hi!

I could not resist a coffee on way into work yesterday.  Poor excuse, but kids had been up half the night and was knackered.  £2.30.  Took bras back - only 1 fitted but it was white and wanted either dark or neutral so just took back.  £96 back on card which has therefore reduced this month's spending as we had already paid that off card last month.  Bought self a top but with voucher - didn't try it on so will take back if don't like it.  Will go in search of a couple of bras on Saturday - at least I now know my size!

Bought lunch for £3.60.  Once we are back from holiday I will start taking lunch in again and will also make DH do the same (though he tends to come home for lunch).  Today's lunch is from stores as is dinner.  It's ready meals as thought DH was out tonight but he's not now.  I complained that I had wanted to watch some stuff on the tv so he is going to sort dining room out and take some un-needed for now stuff to storage so I can watch something on tv.

Spent £15.02 in WR last night.  We needed milk (when don't we) and also DC1 had no snacks so topped up those which was good as they were on offer.  Bought a bottle of wine but that was one we like on offer so only £5.  We are tempted to buy a couple of cases of that and put in storage for xmas as it's a wine we like and is on offer (and they say there might be shortages) plus we'd get another 5% off for buying 12.  But that will be a discussion for the weekend.

    No houses have come on.

DC1 has a haircut later - think it is usually around £15.

Want to do a reccie of cash with DH this weekend.
  • I vote for storing a few cases of wine, if you like them and they are on offer.

I did the same as you with coffee this morning. I've been kicking myself a bit but when I see you write it, I think give yourself a break so perhaps we should both do that? Ultimately its only a cup of coffee and we don't do it every day :)

No new houses for me to view either...

You do seem to be always buying milk. Don't they sell the 6 pint bottles where you are? Less costly and would save you a lot of trips.
  • I am torn between buying it now and knowing we will have everything and buying it now and knowing we will probable eat/drink it and need to buy more :D

  • @TheAble - sadly not, litres only!

@Lookafterthepennies2020 - I think cos DC1 is 3 and DC2 is 11 months we have no choice!  To be fair, DC1 now only on milk on cereal, breakfast cup and bed cup - reckon he might drop it by 4 - but DC2 obvs still needs a lot!
  • Spendy-ish day yesterday.  DC1 haircut was £15.  Got milk on way back from soft play (soft play was free and didn't buy anything there) but loaded up on treats at the garage so £6 of non-essential spending!  Then DH wanted beer when I got home from hairdressers so went out and got beer, wine which were obvs non-essential, then food for the DC which was essential and some sweets for our plane journey (def essential to keep DC1 quiet).  So another £15 or so.

Today will be a sandwich for me, DH will eat at home, then we will get a take away box from Mr M&S tonight.  We still have plenty budget left for this month which I still think will pay for drinks/lunches/incidentals on holibobs in the main - decided to wait until we get back to get glasses which pushes them into next month's budget which hits whilst we are away on 20th
  • Back after a week away.  It was not the best week.  Food was tragic and DC1 lost confidence in the pool after a couple of days.  Cost us a fortune in total but has been paid for so......

Back to now trying to be more frugal.  Today I am WFH and DH is off as we are both poorly.  We have had lunch from stores.  We did a quick shop yesterday so we have supplies and rest of week is going to be from stores bar milk and fresh fruit top ups.  As I'm at home there is no temptation of southern fried chicken baguettes from the local sandwich shop!!!!!

    Dinner will be from stores.

Still nothing doing here on the housing front.  We are still looking at booking a trip to Devon to see houses but are SCARED.

Have a night out with work thursday (presuming I'm better) but that is all paid for by work.  I don't think we will be going out at the weekend though it is DC2's 1st birthday so we are going to have to get pressies and a cake
