I do hope you feel better soon xxx
  • I. AM. SO. HUNGOVER.

We had friends over for "a drink" yesterday around 5.  I have no idea what time they left.  I am just glad I had bought pizzas and sides (on the meal deal of 2 pizzas and 2 sides for £10 so MSE(!)) plus crisps and nuts (on offer) as everyone was hungry.  Of course the DC woke at 0515(!).  So I am writing this with my eyes half shut as it hurts.  We got through 2 bottles of champers (which had been bought for us) and 3 bottles of red plus DH had 4 beers.

Spending has gone somewhat awry.  Did an M&S shop yesterday which ended up being quite expensive since, in addition to getting all our usual stuff, I thought I had better get the pizzas etc in case the afternoon turned to evening and then they had another deal of 2 mains and 4 extras for £15 so also got that.  Have managed to freeze a few things from that which we can have another time.

Then another WR shop for beers.

We also bought some bar stools at B&Q so we can sit in the kitchen with the DC when they are having dinner (plus they were useful when we had friends here last night).  DH has gone to B&Q again to get "things".  I mean, we did say we would spend on the house when we moved in but we might have to siphon off a bit of savings as I don't like to group it under general spending as then makes me feel we are going over budget.  But it does all come out of the same pot.

We were headed to garden centre just now to have a (as DC1 calls it) "pig sandwich" but DC2 has quite a cold and was crying lots so just gave him some calpol and put him down for a sleep.

Sold playmat for £5 yesterday so now sold £35 of stuff.  Need to list some more as have a "jungle gym" but I need to wash and dry the mat first and already got laundry on (already on 2nd load this morning as the DC just create SO much washing).

Really need to start getting fit - weather due to be good tomorrow so am going to walk to work and back.  Same Weds as I have to be in tomorrow and Weds one of the big bosses is visiting from another jurisdiction and we are being taken to lunch (paid for by the firm).

DC1 can't start his extra day at nursery until week after next due to staff sickness/holidays so will still be under the kosh this next week.

Debating whether to take the DC to peppa pig world.  We have a week booked off in May (outside school hols) and had decided we'd stay here and work on the house, but I feel like we should try to get away.  We are planning Crete in October so if we don't go away in May it's quite a long time without getting off the rock.  Will see what DH thinks.

I'm so sorry about your MIL. It probably is best to set yourselves up to manage without her. It does sound like things are regularly fraught with her. The nursery years are not forever thankfully. My mum opted out of childcare as well mainly because she thought I shouldn't work. My MIL on the other hand couldn't wait to help. My mum then became jealous and blamed me for that too!

I know you're keen to attack the house but maybe a Plan B until the childcare costs (and sheer physical/time/emotional demands) drop a bit might be worth thinking about. It does get easier once they're at school. Sleep is usually better by then and easier to have routines even if its still hard work.

Lots of stories of difficulties with family OP, as can be seen. Sometimes there's just no fathoming people out - they all have their reasons, little resentments and whatever. Warby makes a good point about prioritising the childcare for now and putting some of the house projects on hold until money's a little less tight.

She didn't get chance to say anything apparently as he just breezed in and picked DC2 up and left.  He says he is giving her the cold shoulder.

Yes, nowt as funny as folk I guess!

We have the cash set aside for the kitchen diner and because of builder availability meaning it probs won't start until end 2023 start 2024 anyway, we are cracking on with the architect and planning application for that regardless.  But we will probably put the other works (2 bathrooms and the top floor) on hold until the kids start school (or DC1 at least as then I'll be going back FT which will mean extra £)
  • Yesterday was just awful.  Went to bed at 1915 but barely slept as both DC up several times in the night.  DH has tested positive for covid this morning, I am negative.  We think DC2 may have it due to his symptoms.  DC1 is in nursery.  DH is looking after DC2 (as he is fine apart from a cough and being a bit achy) and I am WFH even though I have a sore throat and headache and feel rough!

I had to let work know I was going to log in late today as had to take DC1 to nursery and will have to nip out to pick him up at 5ish.  But they are very understanding - we all have to live with covid and sometimes there will be disruption as a result.

Nipped to shop on way back from dropping DC1 as we needed paracetamol and milk and also got some treats for DH given he is poorly.

Going to be a long day I think.
