Related to this but on a slightly different track, I note that there is an existing petition running to "Prevent DVLA from giving/selling driver information to private parking companies" - at 324 signatures, it needs some help - it costs nothing to register and sign up.

If that's the title of the petition, it's a complete non-starter, and not surprising that there are so few signatures.
The DVLA do not, and never have, given or sold driver information - how could they, when vehicles may be driven by various different people at different times.
The data they sell is the name and address of the registered keeper - that is all they hold on their database.
I agree. There is also no explanation why this is wanted. My concern with the DVLA selling keeper data is the absence of any checks such as the reason why a request has been made and whether there is a valid reason to do so, and that there are no checks to see if the keeper is a vulnerable adult.I married my cousin. Which is why I stated in my post:Related to this but on a slightly different trackand:A correctly worded petition to the UK Government and Parliament that gathers 100,000 signatories requires it to be considered for debate in Parliament
It requires someone with a legal mind and skill to draft a petition that will garner enough support - surely an all party debate will get the fairer result from the CoP that we all want, rather than underhand lobbying by the BPA and IPC?

No harm in signing up, someone could send it viral2

Ideally needs someone with a legal mind or a legal background (@bargepole maybe?) to drfat the petition so it doesn't fail at the first hurdle.
Bringing the whole thing into a wider audience would hopefully bring about a debate where the PPC's can't hide among their crooked cronies.1 -
None of this is needed. The consultation was exactly that and responses will be considered.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I think government already know this.Back in March this year in a BPA newsletter they said
“Government must rethink this. Nobody wants the supermarkets and the retail sector to be forced to charge their customers for parking because of the inability for them to control abuse of spaces with a deterrent that is ineffective"
Government will of course read this and understand how ridiculous such a statement is.Supermarkets and the like are mostly situated in retail parks owned by someone else, the landlord/landowner.
Supermarkets are not going to be seen charging people to shop with them, their competition is already a serious problem with all the price matching going on.
And in the same article the BPA say .."This significant reduction in parking charges also ignores the results from a public consultation, where more than 80% of respondents did not support mirroring local authority penalty charges".Where does the "more than 80%" come from ? Not from the general public that's for sure. Don't they mean 80% of the parking companies ??SOURCE:-https://www.britishparking-media.co.uk/news/public-opinion-ignored-as-government-proposes-measures-that-make-managing-private-parking-unworkable
As Sir Greg Knight said ..
"Government and ministers are not so naive"5 -
Also the supermarkets have measures in place such as a minimum spend model - so people can still shop in town and get their 2-3 hours parking free proving they make a minimum spend (usually £5) at the supermarket. A couple of places near me do this and it seems to work fine. O
They can manage the carpark themselves - maybe use windscreen tickets which can be revoked for a certain amount spent at store so they don't out financially. There are other measures such as going back to the barrier operated/ chip coin token system which I've not seen in years. There is other ways and means of effectively managing carparking. The current model isn't about effectively managing carparks or traffic flows - its basically a license to print money for the carpark operators. There are people who refuse to pay and abuse the system, but they are in a minority (that "Parking Ticket My !!!!!!" group on Facebook and the Youtube blogger Chrissy Morris spring to mind). But the majority of people who get PCNs are normally people who have just not seen sign and/ or made a genuine mistake or there might be extenuating circumstances including most of the Hospital carpark PCNs that occur. The BPA are getting desperate that their cash cow might be getting put out to pasture and GOOD! They've been creaming off hard working innocent people for way to long. If PCNs were only £10 or £20 instead of £60 to 100 before the Parasite Debt firms stick on their Unicorn Food Tax fee then thing might be different - but they got greedy and keep on pumping us for more!3 -

You are so right ..... despite all the mumbo jumbo from their so called leaders, the parking companies do not and never have managed.
Something the BPA have never woken up to.
No doubt the scam IPC approve of3 -
