Not sure there is funding for AHP courses. Nursing, midwifery and paramedics I think all have a bursary.
What about the police or postal service?
Are you already civil service? A friend moved into this from teaching. Good wage. Hybrid working.
My concerns with teaching would be lack of full time contracts resulting in no pay over the summer.2017 - mortgage of £140,000 and interest rate of £10 a day

Also, Ed if you are a graduate, then you are an alumni of your university, their careers service has a commitment to offer careers advice to alumni, that they dont advertise particularly well.12 -

current serving teacher here with almost 17 years at the chalkface under my belt. I adore the job and am fortunate to work in a very good school but I would not in clear conscience recommend teaching as a career choice to anyone. The work/life balance is untenable, people are leaving in droves and the education system is imploding. I am forever conflicted by the fact that I can't imagine wanting to do anything else, and yet don't see how much longer I can keep going like this. As things stand, I can't see me still being in the provision in 5 years time.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...9

@AgathaSquirrel - local government - it pays better than CS.
@DollyDabbler - I graduated from both unis 17+ years ago, think they'd still help?
@pavlovs_dog - Thank you for your honesty, it's appreciated
I know @South_coast has recently been going great guns for paying down debt but I'm thinking about going the other way. Have been offered a money transfer for a year with no fee and no interest - "free" money. Any reason why I shouldn't take it, leave it in my ISA and collect £500ish? Obviously my utilisation for one card would be through the roof, but a small percentage of my total available because of various empty cards7 -
Go for it, I've done the same in the past. I'm only gunning for the debt now because I'm actually in debt, and can't bear the thought that the things I've bought might start breaking before I've paid for them (oh, and the balance transfer options suddenly became non-existent 🤣)Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!6 -
The only thing to consider with this free money is your next mortgage deal and when that is due to be sought. You want the best rate you can get for that, as it is rather longer than the 12m free money.
If that isn't an issue, I would go for it. We did, with two MBNA cards - £15k on one and £13k on the other when interest rates were running high, well over 10% and for 18 months when DH was without a contract - it was a godsend. Outgoings increased with the minimum payments but it was fantastic and we definitely made money
Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

After DollyDabbler’s really helpful post I looked at Mr MV’s alumni benefits and it does say *lifelong* careers assistance, so I don’t think it would matter Ed. Worth a shot in any case.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Who is offering the free money transfer Ed? Best I can find is v*rg*n with a 4% fee, with my cash isa paying 4.32% (ch*p) that's over 150k credit limit needed to clear £500 profit, which seems a tad unlikely 😂
I like the sound of a free £500 from a more realistic 12k limit 🤑 Had given up on the stoozing but that's a goodly chunk of free money!5 -
@SuperSecretSquirrel, my OH has had a 0% fee interest free BT / MT from his existing Sainsbugs CC.
I've stoozed for years and it does impact your credit rating when you only pay the minimum but it recovers quickly (within a couple of months) once you pay it all off.
We currently have over £90k stoozed between us; my credit utilisation is over 60% but my score on CK is 610 / 710 and good so it's not too bad an impact. We don't need to remortgage for years so my rating is not that important right now.6
