The selfie process was annoying. There is no button to press to actually trigger the capture; you have to align your face until the dotted outline turns into a solid green line, and then it tells you to smile so it 'triggers' the capture. It's not just smiling either... all sorts of movement changes to the face can result in the picture being taken, which can lead to some embarrassing redos.1

It took me about 5 attempts, too, to get through the ID check, and I also had "we need to do some further checks, this is usually within the hour". My account was approved within 10 minutes though. I had used my passport (no glasses) and wore glasses for the selfie.
That's for the simple reason - a point made by the passport and driving licence authorities - that glasses make id more tricky. So, if I'm asked to match my selfie to my photo id I take my glasses off. Because glasses are, surely, quite likely to be an issue.
I totally agree that if the banks want easy id checks they would be wise to actively suggest people take their glasses off - it wouldn't be difficult for them to do. But equally its not rocket science to do it without prompting.
It does mean I can't read the instructions on the screen though...1 -

Anyway, I got accepted by Chase, so the glasses don't appear the reason for rejections. In my case the initial difficulties were more likely that I just do not look anything like the 7 year old photo in my passport any more.0 -

Still no code for me. Keep reading about people getting codes instantly.
But they’ve now started sending me marketing emails, but on the flip side at least the emails are written aware I don’t have a code yet0 -

I’m on a roll now. 69p ‘earned’ already. What will I spend it on? 🤣It takes a couple of days from making a purchase but then you have access to the cashback straight away. Nice feature, way faster than other cashback schemes.I haven’t tried yet whether you can combine with other cashback schemes (Topcashback etc) - has anyone else?0
