I'm on a smart meter so have never been able to add my own readings.
I have noticed that whilst they take a smart electricity reading daily, for Gas they only usually take one monthly on the billing date, however they have taken one today so something must be going on behind the scenes with the transfer.

Just got British Gas welcome email, basically explaining what will happen. No details of tariff etc. They got my name and (supply) address right, so I assume some data has gone across already.0

Second time in 12 months for me. British Gas proces can't be any higher then the shocking prices Scottish power charged when I got moved to them. Can't seem to add any new readings now0

I got the BG email too. So have to start looking for better prices, but what I can't figure out is why the '100% renewable' companies cite rising natual gas prices as to why the tarrifs are set to rise. I can understand there's a cost to build, install and maintain, but thereafter the electricity produced is free. Prices should be coming down on renewables, not going up.
Wasn't that the whole reason for the carbon tax to help build these 'farms'?0 -
Has anyone cancelled the direct debit? Will the credit balance get transferred over to British Gas? Thanks.

Wasn't that the whole reason for the carbon tax to help build these 'farms'?The carbon tax is there to discourage fossil fuels. It only indirectly favours renewables. And the wind/solar farms, biomass generators, nuke plants etc. sell at the market price, just like everyone else. If that's less than their strike price they get a subsidy, if it's more than their strike price they pay the surplus back to the government. This was discussed in the Octopus thread recently, see this post and the reply.N. I've got the BG email today - apparently I became their customer yesterday (10th). Perhaps BG will take time out and update OFGEM at some point. Good to see everyone singing from the same hymn sheet.....Fashion on the Ration 2025 46/660

Little wind and sun have reduced the amount of renewable energy going to the Grid. Three suppliers Ecotricity, Good Energy and Green Energy UK have been awarded permanent exemptions from the price cap for their standard variable tariffs (SVTs) by Ofgem. It follows that if these suppliers have to buy in green energy they can reflect any additional cost in higher standard variable tariffs.TezFair said:I got the BG email too. Wasn't that the whole reason for the carbon tax to help build these 'farms'?The Grid was using gas to produce electricity; however, the price of gas has now reached a level where the Grid has called for two coal-fired power stations to come back online. Gas is in short supply ( and expensive) because many gas fields were shut down as a consequence of COVID; LPG gas is also in short supply, and, our present Government has cut back on gas storage.

Your credit balance will be transferred to BG. It will take some time as PFP have to generate final bills, and they will now be on skeleton staff. Then the info has to be passed to BG who will also take.theit own time.ditta said:Has anyone cancelled the direct debit? Will the credit balance get transferred over to British Gas? Thanks.
I've also cancelled my DD. A poster a few pages back reported they have a £12 charge on their account for missed DD collection, it seemst will only happen on your actual DD date though.1
