You are generally advised not to cancel direct debits and not to transfer until the new supplier has taken over.0

Q... How will this credit be returned to me?
It may take a few months though as their priority will be existing/current customers and it also depends how good PFPs customer records are.
A few months is optimistic. When Eversmart went, it took Utilita almost 2 years to pay my credit balance back.

Here we go again, Yorkshire Energy at the end of last year and now PFP.
Remembering the YE thread and the experiences there:
- Many did go against Ofgem advice and initiated switches away immediately. This had mixed results, although I think there is potential for issues. Some had a double switch problem, their chosen switch started to happen, but then Scottish Power the SoLR also tried to start a switch. If you’ve got credit it also could delay this being refunded, the SoLR priority will be setting up the existing accounts.
Last time I followed the advice and sat and waited until SP had transferred me. It was slow but I had no issues. This time I’m kind of tempted this time to start a switch today, with tariffs continually rising st the moment.
- Direct Debit. I’m not so sure on leaving this active. I see no reason. I’m not paying any more to a company in administration. Especially if you’re in credit and have enough there to cover final bill. . Even if you’re in debt, eventually they will reconcile the accounts and if you owe money can ask for it. In the YE -> SP transfer the DD were not moved across, SP set up new ones.- Log into the PFP account now and download as much recent data as you can. Bills, meter read screen shots, account balance screenshot.
- Take meter readings today with photos. Take more meter readings when Ofgem announce the SoLR and announce the actual transfer date.2 -
My approach was not to act in haste.
As previous post take a reading as soon as possible, photo and send them as an email to yourself so you don't forget the figures.
Wait until a new provider is appointed. They will advise how they are dealing with it.
In my case there was an offer of a tarriff and a date when it would come in to force. During those few weeks I moved to another provider so was never contracted with the new provider.

Having been through this with Tonik last year I know this time that patience is, unfortunately, key. And I say unfortunately because I can't imagine a much worse time than now to be sitting around in a state of limbo whilst energy prices are rising all around us but such is life. The lights and heating are still on and that's surely what matters most.
My transfer from Tonik to Scottics Power as SoLR went reasonably okay - it just took a few seemingly-long months and there was a notable absence of updates regarding what was actually happening. I didn't get to find out what tarif I was being moved to for a while and so was really in the dark on that. My credit from Tonik didn't take too long to come through, although it might've been helped by a couple of prods along the way.
Certainly this time round I've cancelled my direct debit with PFP. As another poster above says I don't see the need to be sending money to a company in administration and with Tonik it ended up just increasing the credit that they owed which is a situation I don't want to repeat. Once the dust settles with the PFP final bill we can settle up then with a one-off payment in whichever direction that needs to be. In the meantime I'll keep hold of my own money thank you very much.0 -
If u offered a new tariff but turned it down to get ur own new supplier what tariff were u on in between?
In other words how much am I paying per unit today ? My old tariff or some new tariff that I won't know for maybe weeks ?0 -
I've been thru 4 * SOLR procedures and I've cancelled the DD on every occasion. Don't trust administrators of defunct Cos. not to help themselves!!
The only issue was when I was moved from Usio to First Utility - they tried to charge me a higher standing charge for not having a DD set up but I argued (successfully) that First Utility had never asked me for my bank details for the period of time I was with them.0
