Agreed. You can initiate another switch as soon as BG is showing as your nominated supplier. You do not have to wait until BG sets up your account etc.spot1034 said:
The actual takeover of the account usually happens quite quickly. Even the one I was caught up in - YE to SP - which was somewhat slower than the norm for reasons that I don't think were ever made clear - was sorted so that, from YE going into administration around Dec 3rd, many of us were able to apply to move on from the SOLR by the first couple of days of January.t0rt0ise said:What I want, is for the take over of my account to be done more quickly. I don't mind paying more for a few weeks but when it stretches to months I feel justified in moaning as I see the savings I have made over the last year get eaten away.

PS: if you are dual fuel then you need to check both databases as they do not update at the same time.

Agree with spot, the actual industry process of the account switching usually happens within a couple of weeks. You only have to wait for that to happen, it's not necessary to wait for the SoLR to set up things like online account access, and welcome packs etc. That's essentially admin at their end.spot1034 said:

Keep an eye on the "Who is my supplier" websites, as soon as that shows British Gas you'll be able to start thinking about switching. As long as you keep accurate meter readings and evidence, then everything else will sort itself out in the wash.
I was also a Yorkshire Energy customer, they ceased trading on 02/12/20, Scottish Power were the SoLR. I was able to start a switch away from SP on 07/01/21 which completed on 28/01/21. All of that was before YE had even generated a final bill or SP had my online account properly set up. But it all worked out fine.0 -
Going to sit tight and see what rates are offered. I was once with a supplier that went down and the SoLR actually gave a pretty good special rate that wasn't available to its own customers, I ended up staying with the SoLR for a few years as they sustained the good rate.
It seemed like having acquired clearly price sensitive customers they decided to keep them with a very competitive rate.
I very much doubt BG will take this strategy but its worth waiting to see before jumping.0 -
When can we actually switch?
What's the website for finding my supplier? I have tried loads of them and not a single one works.

https://www.moneysupermarket.com/store/gas-and-electricity/enquiry/ - put your postcode/address in here, it should (but not always) show who your current supplier is.... May not be 100% official, but it shows mine as PFP still

Same, shows as pfp energy. This is gay.0

Says on the guidance that as soon as you supplier contacts you, you can switch.
British gas emailed me on the 10/09/21 with the following:
As of 10th September you became our customer, welcome to the British Gas family.
I assume I should be able to switch with no issues, no?0 -
I may add a couple of thousand kWH to the final reading

Whilst I know that some have found that things can take a really long time I think they might be edge cases and the majority are reasonably paced. I know I was moaning about how long my Tonik to Scottish Power SoLR transfer but when I posted my actual dates I realised it wasn't too bad afterall. I think it was more that at the time it felt like an absolute age but that was probably more from not knowing what was happening until it actually happened. Hopefully this time round I'll be more patient!t0rt0ise said:What I want, is for the take over of my account to be done more quickly.
