Honey_Bear, thank you for the lovely comment.
Hello ladies, i have finally caught up on the last thread and this one, hugs sticks and spoons to everyone, get well soon poorlies and positive thoughts to anyone that needs them.
Pretty much no home flying has been done but lots of boat flying over 20 bin bags of rubbish cleared out, 3 tins of polish used, lots of disinfectant, steam cleaning and power washing done, its getting there. Don't think i mentioned but OH's op got postponed last week, it is going ahead tomorrow *fingers crossed* he hates the thought of it but it has to be done. Hopefully he recovers quickly and we'll be moving onboard in 6 weeks or soCross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:11 -
Deleted_User said:Piggers - rant away. I teach mainly girls (subjects I cover are quite "girly" apparently) and a lot of them are considered by heads of years and SLT to be the troublemakers - because they will defy the rules and get their nose pierced/roll their skirt up/come to school with false lashes on. That "tag" never really leaves kids like that, so they continue to do things their own way and are happy to spend a day in isolation (my most detested form of punishment - but that's a whole other rant) if it means they can be who they want to be.
In my classroom they thrive, because I choose as a person to ignore their "naughty" rule breaking, applaud them in my head for being gutsy and not letting our ego driven male leadership team tell them who to be, and we get on with our learning. Some of the lesson plans for my child development course are decades old, and we are told to use them. I don't - I write my own. I remember one day I brought in a Call the Midwife DVD and we watched an episode - they loved it, and learnt so much from that not just related to their course but history as well.
I no longer teach the PHSE course because I was too annoyed with the poor content around personal finance and budgeting, and my offers to update the schemes of work were overruled, so I was taken off the course and replaced with a shiny, new, biddable NQT.
Moan over. You moan all you wish.. I entirely agree.. I am sure it is to beat out any individuality and create another generation of low paid, compliant workers with debts and no drive to achieve ambitions. The teachers when I was at school seemed to decide who was worthy of their time and those who they just had to tolerate for a few years, they had a massive impact on who did well and who did not and it was the ones who were from better off backgrounds, spoke nicer, looked generally better cared for who got the attention and guidance and care.. it really sucks. None of the wealthier children were labelled 'naughty/bad/difficult/challenging' it was all the ones from low income families, estates etc.
Squeak won't stop crying today.. I have no idea what is going on with her.. she is outside drawing flowers now the rain has stopped.WM onOff to do lunch and hang out wet stuff and kick OH and DS2LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)8 -
Why are we so hung up on appearances?
DD1 has got in to pediatrics in the place she wanted so is off to new adventures. And for the record she has too many piercings in her ears to count, a pierced nose and a fluorescent pink streak through her very long curly red hair! The most important lesson is be yourself and follow your dreams.
House suddenly has energy in it again and we're off for coffee and cake10 -
Congratulations to your DD1, Mademoiselle
(((Hugs))) to Squeak x
Well said, asb and pigpen. I think school uniforms have a lot to answer for - other European countries manage to educate their young people to a high standard in academic/practical subjects and treat them as individuals, without insisting on overpriced and overrated uniformity.
The heavy rains passed over here at 02:15, refilling all the water butts and watering the lawn for me. It's been humid all morning and now the rain has returned, though not much to speak about yet. Luckily I washed jeans and T-shirts yesterday, and they dried in a couple of hours.
One way and another, I have had a fairly non-productive working morning. DH has a streaming cold, but since he has a negative LFT result, he has now decided that it is OK to spread his beastly germs around the war games shop. So thoughtless! Perhaps I should give him a red flag to carry and teach him to squawk "Unclean! Unclean!" parrot fashion.
I still have a bank application form or three to complete. Back later...
ETA half a sentence that disappeared into the ether...
... and also to say to Kaz that I hope your OH is coping OK so far with his new treatment cycle xx

Interesting discussion on education - thank you to everyone who's contributed/contributing. I've absolutely no experience of the UK state system having had most of my education abroad as a child and in boarding schools. I did not enjoy very much of it as I got older which I now find really sad because I love learning. Good on you Piggers, and I hope Squeak flourishes. Good call on the surplus pears, as well - they will not go to waste and I think giving them away is the best idea.Congrats to your DD1 on her achievements and choice Mademoiselle. I hope she finds her career rewarding.Keeping on top of the kitchen is all I can manage at the moment but other than that the house looks pretty passable if you ignore the dust.Better is good enough.10

Hi all
Interesting stuff ASB/Pigpen. When school realised that DS2 was very bright they put a huge amount of pressure on him to achieve, it threw him into a panic and made him very stressed. I dont think them pushing him to achieve was for his benefit and it didnt do him any favours. And DS1 didnt go to secondary school at all because of his health and he has done OK for himself. I listen to my niece talk about things that happen at secondary school and it makes me shudder.
Funny old day, paid stuff, then queued to get into the bank, called at Li@l then home to do more paid stuff. Sorted out some camping stuff as we are sneaking away tomorrow for a last camping trip before the weather turns.
Well done to DD Mademoiselle.
Feel a bit unsettled, not sure why.12 -
YL I had the same with DS1. He did not become stressed and panic though he became unruly and a bit of a pest.
Washing brought in very quickly when it started raining while I was cooking dinner.
Girls staying hot dinner tomorrow.. it is fish and chips day .. It is Dots treat if she has been as good as possible during the week.. we don't expect perfect just to try with her work and do her best.
Squeak is a bit excited for science lesson tomorrow. I am a bit overwhelmed if I am honest, I guess for week one we have survived.
