Do you have to be connected to data/Bluetooth for it to work?
You will need an element of data/WiFi connection, but not necessarily at the point of sale (Google does a much better job of expanding on than I could here 😊). The device you use would need to have NFC though.0 -

Even better, if you have a current account with NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland or any of the NatWest Group banks you can withdraw cash from ATMs using your phone. You use the app to request a cash withdrawal code, enter this into a NatWest/Tesco/RBS ATM and you get the cash. That, for me, is the icing on the cake. Definitely no need to carry my cards around with me!

Santander allow you to switch contactless on/off via their mobile app - chip and pin still works. Might be a similar option in other banking apps. Could be useful if you don't use the card much.
I know Lloyds will send instant alerts when the card is used for debit cards - again set up in the app. Won't stop fraud but at least alerts you quickly. Not sure about their credit card alerts as it's only a backup card I haven't used since I set the alerts up.
Don't really like the £100 limit on debit cards if you need it you can probably afford a phone that has NFC so you can use Google/Apple pay which are better options.
I think the higher limit will just encourage crime - particularly robberies, burglaries and fraud. Also I suspect as fraud increases both by lost cards being used and people claiming their card was lost banks will become less inclined to refund loses. As ever that will disproportionately affect the people who can least afford the loss as they'll likely fit the profile the banks have of potential fraudsters.

Great news. I use my card for everything, would try a mobile app but I have never lost a credit card yet but have lost several mobile phones (or they have stopped working).
Hopefully they will use this as another stepping stone to finally get rid of that vile disgusting stuff they call 'paper money' and 'coins'I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
£100 limit for contactless is reckless IMO.4

I would hope that the banks insist on more frequent pin use with a higher limit. That will limit their losses due to fraudulent use without massively inconveniencing anyone.
And of course there is the second side of it - the stores need to have this enabled as well.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
