NSD today.
yesterday £6ish at A$da but using a gift card I found so not coming out of overall spends.
need to go to l1dl tomorrow for the week’s shopping, will be the last bigger shop of the month and want to keep it under £30. Have a strict list.2 -
Another couple of small shops and now have £88.60 left for rest of the month which I'm really pleased with as we've also been away for a few days in the motorhome. At the moment there are only a few things needed to buy and as I'll be going near the big Mr Ts tomorrow I'll pick those few things up plus have a look to see if I can get a nice cabbage as well. Not had cabbage for a few weeks and I like to buy one from time to time as can get a few dinners from each one. Looking good to be coming in under budget which will be a first for quite a few months.

Joedenise I have loads of cabbage and can never get rid of the stuff! Got about 3 half cabbages in the fridge waiting to be added to soups etc. We get one every couple of weeks in the veg box but I can never use them fast enough!£27.80 at L1dl to declare, should be the last weekly shop of the month. Was careful about sticking to the list and using a coupon. Have £8.89 left for the month and a few quid on an A$da gift card if needed. Will do a monthly stock up on tins etc next Friday when we should have been paid. All being well this will take our monthly spend in l1dl to just over £200 so we should get £10 off via their app.2

Grocery spending Sept - £114.62 of £170
£27 in Lidl yesterday - even though I swiped my lidl card and it said it was accepted it did not recognise it it seems so not had the discounts..nor receipt added. I have contacted them...
I am low this month as been away for a fair few days and also trying to use up meat/veg in freezer. An aim is to defrost freezer soon.
I will be making soups again as the weather cools, beetroot is my fav and Lidl had cheap ones. I will buy a FR chicken this weekend to get the stock. I always make soup as its healthy but also I realise its v MSE. May even make a few veg soups.
NSD 7/10
Wed was a NSD apart from travel to work which I don't count - however Tues and Thurs was big spending so it balances out.
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

@jozbo - if you don't cut cabbage it'll keep ages, just need to remove outer leaves. I often use up the last of a cabbage by making coleslaw. I make a big bowl of cabbage, onion & carrot and then just take out what I want and add some mayo or yoghurt to it to use in a salad or in a sandwich or even just to eat on it's own!

@jozbo - I made the hispi cabbage recipe on this page a while ago and simplified it by just doing it in the frying pan and it was delicious, highly recommended. Grilled hispi, Turkish cauliflower and coconut kale: Yotam Ottolenghi’s brassica recipes | Food | The Guardian
On the subject of soup, I found this wartime cartoon reproduced in a Marguerite Patten cookbook that I bought in a charity shop this week and thought everyone on this thread might enjoy it too.
I spent £10.31 at M*rks today on strawberries, physalis, cucumber, lettuce, f/f g. s. yoghurt, pitta bread, f/f cottage cheese and tomatoes which makes my new total £100.97/£120 and my average daily spend £4.20. I'm going to need milk tomorrow and yoghurt, milk and bog roll later in the week but apart from that I'm going to try to live on my stores until the end of the month - famous last words eh!

nannygladys said:Pixiehouse55 - are you going to live in the campervan? I would love to have one to go roaming around the country. I miss the caravan I had but could no longer realistically afford to keep it.
Nothing spent today, so money still in tact but I will be going to the community pantry tomorrow for a few bits and pieces, so a little will be spent whilst there.

Earlier in the week before people went into panic mode we broke the budget at Aldee spent £34 which takes us over the 200 to £211.27, and we still have a week to go.

I've been dreadful for not updating as we go along this month, but we had the incentive to keep to budget after our offer was accepted on a house so keeping spending tight more important than ever. Just did a quick total and we've spent £168.86 this month so over the £150 we hoped, but not too far off. I also realised I struggle with letting our store cupboards drop down and any "bulk" deals feel the need to grab them. Since we'll be moving within the next 3 months next month I need to work on not restocking in bulk, as it is just more stuff to move!3
