My friend lying about job

Options

my friends has never had a job after his HND, other then a few days here and there, he gets money from his family.

16 years unemployed.

he is very smart his dad was a surgeon, who passed away when he was young and his sisters a doctor

Anyway, recently he said to me he works for money, so I said what’s the job, he goes it’s a scecret, I’m not sure why I’m so annoyed, maybe because he’s lying to me.

Then he says stuff like weekend I’m going here there. Monday to Friday working, he doesn’t work why’s he saying that all of a sudden..

either get a job or don’t, but why all of a sudden lie to me in such a weird way, doesn’t even make up a company name?

It’s really hard and question or pinning down, he’s so smart at comebacks etc

3 reasons why I’m certain he’s lying, he’s saying it’s a secrect I met him on Friday as I was working staurday he goes yeah I’m off work then too concidence, and on PlayStation app I can see he’s online playing PlayStation. When he’s supposed to be working.

Is this the same friend that owed you £6000?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

    No a different friend

The thing that really annoys me, is he can say anything to me, but when I say something or disagree he spends ages persuading he’s right, like for example he says you need to be straight forward with girls if I say for example you wrong, he would spend ages telling me he’s right, then If I still disagreed he would make me feel stupid and get annoyed then I would get annoyed, I just avoid it and go along with him which annoys me.

If he has actually got a job after all these years and is not lying, regardless of the job I’m happy for him.

I think we all have a friend like that!  One of mine is always saying how much better the good things in his life are compared to mine (he can never just be happy for you), and how much worse the bad things are.  If I have a sniffle, he has pneumonia!  You know the sort!!!

Maybe he is embarrassed by what the work is?

He’s not arrogant just a matter of fact person, for example we know the Earth is round, but if someone says it flat, we would not feel clever because we know it’s round.

Then he will spend ages explain why and answering all questions, then if you still don’t agree he gets annoyed as he thinks he’s trying to help

He genuinely wants the best for people and a lot of times he’s right but when he’s wrong, he doesn’t realise.

Sounds like he likes winding you up. There may well be some mental health issues there. Sometimes it's just best to avoid getting into arguments with certain people and he sounds like one of those types.

Why are you so bothered and why are you watching him logging on playing playstation? He could be a gaming tester for playstation for all you know. If he's lying he's only lying to himself. Mind your business and focus on your own business or tell him that you think he's a liar, after all you say he's your friend right.

Because work is such a natural topic when he mentions it and he’s lying and I knowing he’s lying.

imagine if someone says I had a tough day at work when they been sitting at home playing video games.

it sort of becomes a fake friendship.

also next time I speak to him I will tell him I don’t belive him, because he says it’s a secrect, and if he ever mentions how’s work, I will tell him I can’t say because you never talk about yours.
