    Terms and conditions questions

    • You’ve previously benefitted from this offer, as set out at clause 4.

Currently I have a joint Nationwide account which I opened for the benefit of 0% overdraft interest for 12 months. I did not had a joint acc previously with Nationwide.

I did receive switching offer on my sole and my wifes sole account pteviously.

I am correct in saying I can switch account to joint with 2 paid DDs we should be eligible for the incentive?

If I open a sole account in my name that acc would not be eligible?

    Thanks
    Anyone please?
The T&C only refer to previously benefitting from "this offer", which was only launched yesterday, so I doubt you have benefitted it from it already.

You may have benefitted from a previous Nwide switching offer (the refer a friend scheme?) but that's not "this offer".
So joint account will be okay for tge switching.

What about if I open a sole account?

Sole account and joint account switch should both give you the incentive payment.

    Thanks allot I missed that.
  • Thanks Ghostcrawler that’s really helpful for us all.

I also did a live chat and Nationwide said it’s not counted as an active DD until the first payment is actually taken.

From my job the only way I can imagine they know whether it has or not is that there wouldn’t be a reference / mandate number on the DD details until a first payment comes out.

Best to wait and not risk it :)

So, is anyone attempting a new switch into an account that has previously received a switching bonus under the refer a friend offer? From the T&Cs it should work, but I'd be interested to hear a real success story.

I was directly approached by NW with a switching offer mailshot in Jan 2020 which I took advantage of. Theoretically I could switch in again, just like referred friends, but have my doubts about whether they'd pay out again so quickly, despite it seeming to be within the T&Cs.

I'm switching 2 x Virgin Money (ex-wine offer) and 1 x BoS Reward into 3 brand new Flex accounts (2 single + 1 joint) - so hopefully £375 in the bag!

I've already received 2 x RAF rewards hence why I decided to open the new accounts for the new switches.

    (2 x DD's already active on all 3 donor accounts  :) )

Direct debits show date of last payment, frequency of payment and usually have a reference no. too.  Until a payment is taken it can't have a "last payment date"  and the frequency of payment would show as "unknown".  Whether this is shared with the bank upon switching I don't know but I would suspect it is, it's not exactly private information.

Irony is Nationwide refer a friend ran for years with same stipulation that 2 active direct debits had to be transferred over as part of the switch, I do not recall many ( if any) questions on the subject nore do I recall anybody who did not get switch bonus due to direct debits transferred over not having been paid out previously.

This definition of what is ‘active’ has been going on for years, just read a thread from 2016 all same stuff, does it need to have paid out to be active, should I wait until it does etc!
If I set up a DD in February to pay road tax annually in November it hasn’t paid out yet, it’s not November but it’s listed in my DD list for the bank account I set it up on, therefore it’s ACTIVE!!!!!!! It’s not not there, if I switch that account it won’t be transferred over? However I haven’t seen a single report that a DD showing in an account and then switched disappeared in transit! Because the receiving bank doesn’t know if it’s paid out before so unless the switched account bank withhold or don’t send the DD details across it’s an active DD. And no one reports DDs not being sent over.
Realise this sounds like a rant and we seem to be the only two that believe a DD is active simply by being listed and after being switched over the DD gets another twelve months before it could get deleted for not being active if a payment has not being taken.

why not flexdirect, just curious to know.

Also those who will be switching 3 accounts, what are your plans, all into flexdirect or flexaccount or going to spread out?

no one is claiming that DD wont be moved over or will be deleted if it has never been paid, ofcourse it will be moved over and DDs will be paid from NW once switch is completed and havn't cancelled the DDs.  But highly possible if it has not been paid ever you will be eligible for £125 switch bonus.  Also @kaMelo and @DebtHurricane pointed out, if it has never been paid then there wont be a reference or any sort of ID.  And may be @DebtHurricane and me we both have been given incorrect info but I am going to playing safe and will allow my DD to go through at least once and then request for switch, rather being getting upset on missing out the bonus.  As @colsten said it doesn't hurt and no point in thinking over too much.
