Yes it’s presented as the answer to nearly all things. I have never smoked but a gp we had said said giving up smoking was the answer to everything including broken limbs if you did smoke . I guess they all have their own hobby horses

Don't get me started on stopping smoking. I gave up in 1988. Guess when I started with underactive thyroid problems. Noticable ones just over a month later. My father gave up smoking & when did his over active thyroid symptoms show. Yes just over a month, so packing in smoking whilst a good thing is not always the answer to everything. I had an age 70 health check a few years ago, I thought it was with a doctor but it wasn't. She told me my health hadn't been improved by giving up smoking all those years before. I bet she didn't put my comments down on one of her forms because I told her that in that case I would start smoking again as maybe it would stop my thyroid problem again. She didn't even recognise the sarcasm or even comment. The annoying thing is that having had my blood pressure taken at least annually for over 40 years I have now developed white coat syndrome & an aversion to doctors even though she was a nurse.

Morning all
Just in from the doctors. I cried. Of course I did. But in a good way because I'm starting to think that someone might finally be listening to me and taking me seriously. I hated having to be all assertive and telling her that I am intelligent and self aware but I didn't want her to think that I hadn't seriously thought about what was going on. She thinks I definitely have perimenopausal symptoms but says the menopause could be a good 10+ years away as yet. I told her everything that had gone on over the years about ex, my self esteem and self doubt etc and how I manage most of the time but when I'm hormonal it makes me feel so much worse. She agrees that the hormonal issues are making things worse but also suspects that it's just one of a lot of things that are affecting my health at the moment, including my anxiety and hang ups about my weight and she thinks that we need to look at other issues apart from hormones. So I have a full blood test today, and another appointment on 22 December to come up with a plan of action. In the meantime she has asked me to self refer again to the mental health services (to get a refresher) which I'm more than happy to do. I don't know whether to feel relieved or not but at least I feel as though someone might finally be listening.
In other news Storm Arwen wasn't a total disaster. The house, car, kids and cats are all intact but my back fence got flattened as I'd suspected it would. I'm lucky to be blessed with a large garden in spite of having no interest in looking after it - but large garden = long fence. It's 12m that needs replacing and that is going to cost me £1200. Which I don't have. I'm trying to psyche myself up to go and ask the neighbour to share the cost but I don't like her very much and my mental health isn't in a good place at the moment so it's a really big ask. Why would something like a fence just cost so much money? And why am I not skilled enough to be able to do it myself? So much for chucking everything I get at the debt. Grrrr.
Right - I'm working in the other job today so am going to grab myself a cuppa and a bite to eat before I start. Have a good day everyone and stay safe in this rotten weather.

Time to take back control

Morning @crazy_cat_lady Pleased to hear the Doctor took you seriously and has started investigations and is looking to set up a plan with you to get your health back on track.
Pleased Storm Arwen didn't damage the family, house or cars. Sorry to hear about the fence and ouch to the cost.
Enjoy your cuppa, give yourself a pat on the back for having the courage to go to the Doctor.
Thank you for sharing as there will be others who also are finding it difficult and you will have inspired them.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

So pleased you've got positive news from the GP and more importantly she listened.
Does the fence have to be done now? Why not wait until weather is kinder.
How about writing a note to neighbour to see if she'd help...maybe she has used someone local herself?
Also check your deeds to make sure which part of the fence is yours. I had the same problem a few years ago and discovered I wasn`t liable.9 -
Does the fence count under your house insurance?
Isn't the storm an act of god type thing?
Also congrats on decent doctor and being pro you. XXXXXNevertheless she persisted.10 -
So glad to hear you have plucked up the courage to see the GP and that you are being taken seriously.
About the fence check around and see if anyone locally can do it cheaper - amessage on facebook, ask the neighbours, friends etc?
