Crazy Cat Lady Chapter 5 - Trying to recover from the pandemic

Evening all
I know you shouldn't drink and type - but here I am after a couple of large gins for the first time in weeks. I don't drink much because I can't deal with the recovery time afterwards. But getting to the end of this term just about intact is nothing short of a miracle - it has been hell and I work in a really good school with really great people.
Highlight of the day for me personally was watching the Head on video, kicking the 'Mental Elf' across the yard. Not everyone in school wanted to play the 'hilarious' game of hide the elf with a nice gift for someone and pass it on. I was devastated to find it on my desk this morning. Anyway, I passed it onto a head of year very quickly with a bar of chocolate and it found its way onto the Head's desk less than half an hour later. The Head used to play rugby league and did a cracking drop kick of it right across the yard and had his PA video it. That's not to say our Head doesn't have a sense of humour - he absolutely does - he was an ugly sister in our staff panto this year and was brilliant. Just doesn't go in for forced fun - much like team science.
I'm so pleased to have finished for the year. It's been tough going - I'm mega skint and really run down, and desperate for exams not to be cancelled again next year. I just need a week or two of rest, relax and a bit of sleep and I will be good.
Christmas shopping is done and complete - I haven't wrapped anything yet though and I still need to get a couple of nice gift bags somewhere for my niece and nephew. I even have managed to get a turkey crown for half price at Mr S this evening - it's in the freezer until Boxing day with the reduced pigs in blankets I bought. I noticed tonight that Herr Aldee has all of it's Christmas dinner veggies on cheap this week so I'll get back there on Thursday I think - to stock up. Also bought a bottle of their light up gin which is absolutely nothing at all like MS light up gin (and much nicer anyway). I'm really going off MS - much as I like their food they have no sense of humour.
Anyway - I just wanted to check in and say a quick hello to all of you, and thank those of you that have sent cards to me and the kids - it's much appreciated. I did order some cards but like many things I've ordered online this year - they haven't arrived. Along with my secret santa gift I needed Wednesday (not arrived), the personalised gift I ordered for the head (not arrived) and the personalised tree bauble (not arrived). I know everywhere is short staffed at the moment but these are Christmas things I ordered on 2nd December !!!!!!.
Also, while I'm a bit tiddly I just want to say 2 more things.
1. I hate the government, just in case anyone was in any doubt there at all. I hate Boris and his cronies. I hate Covid, I hate the corruption, and I hate not being able to do anything about it.
2. I'm panicking a lot about inflation. I'm already struggling to make ends meet and I foresee hyper inflation coming up. I'm trapped in an SVR for at least the next 3 or 4 months and probably longer judging by the state of my finances. I worry about how I'm going to manage.
Also, on that happy note - it's 4 years today since my cousin died of sepsis. He was only 46 and was a brilliant cousin. I love him and miss him so much. I wish I could just speak to him once more and tell him I think the world of him, and this world is just a little bit darker without him. Not fair.
Anyway - I am planning on being back on tomorrow - hangover permitting. Foxgloves, I have about 300 posts on your diary to catch up on so I will make it a date.
Loads of love people. I wish you were here in real life, because I'm drunk and emotional and I really want a cuddle
