Swedish Death Cleaning is great, thank you! I've been watching it on my phone, but realised last night I could probably watch it on my laptop so its a bigger screen.
Another one here with a waist band under pressure, and I don't want to am NOT buying any more clothes, especially as my wardrobe is also busting at the seams. Good idea to not have the vinted balance available, with the aim of discouraging more spending. I'll pay my £15 off the mortgage right now."Think of many things, do one"

I have a savings pot called “free Money” and I put all “unexpected” money in it.
so any survey or vinted money or winnings etc
I then use it to buy something I want. Currently saving up for a new camera lens9 -

Plus you won't be buying anything anyway after all this death cleaning 👍!Debsnewbudget said:I have a savings pot called “free Money” and I put all “unexpected” money in it.

The phrase used on it ' emotions want to be in motion/be moving' is interesting - to sit with emotions, look at them and let them pass rather than suppress or squash.
Getting rid of things when a loved one has died ... I am having trouble giving away a lovely perfume bottle my first real boyfriends mum gave me! i never use and I dont even love it that much ...
Weekend was busy Friday working til late, Sat hall shelves and EMS, then went out with friend dancing (so much fun in Soho) after decluttering til 8pm and yesterday was more decluttering and saw a friend for a walk yesterday afternoon.
My flat has hall shelves up - woohoo ! paid £30 for the wood and £40 for the labour - he didnt want anything but felt I wanted to give some cash and he had to custom fit 4 shelves (were 3 huge ones there already so now 6. It looks so great -huge bottom one, and then better size others though the top one is too wide so I cant get big things in as only a small gap so that needs altering however I have for now just stuffed sleeping bag and a few small boxes up there.
I have an entire shelf of to do's - already on vinted, to be put on Vinted/ebay - new Smeg kettle anyone? , repairs and drycleaning. Plus I have some papers/memorabilia that need sorting Swedish death cleaning style but no time yesterday so thats on anther shelf.. However 6 shelves of varying sizes is so helpful. I am planning once papers are sorted to even use one shelf for handbags as they all stuffed inside a wardrobe.
I have (very SDC) added labels on the boxes/bags so i can see immediately what else is there
I gave away a tall plant that kept blocking and hated fact I have been away a lot .. it had been dumped on me... not sure why we all feel responsible for things dumped on us..
The flat is feeling SO MUCH BETTER - however of course more to do. A few bags/boxes of stuff to sort and 2 large cupboards but I am digging into corners, pulling stuff out of drawers.. It is lovely to see some clear space.
I am now eyeing up my makeup counter .... I have reduced makeup from 2 drawers to one plus a lot of the dressing table - some of which I was gifted and never use or are palettes where I used 2 eyeshadows and largely ignore the rest ... Trying to use everything up or worse case it gets thrown.. Any eye shadow colours I no longer/ever wear have already gone. Part of me just wants to throw everything I am not using now away...
Still cant decide on the 2 nice gifted but not needed chairs as having 3 in my small round table is too much plus owning 2 large benches, 2 high stools and an office chair, a small chaise....!! I could get rid of the office chair as I never sit on it but I only have one bottom and I also have a sofa ...and two trunks one can sit on - how many chairs is too much? Its maybe I will want them in the next flat...
Having my DN to stay means I wanted to scrub everything and make room for the fabulous but large inflatable bed I have. My study no longer looks crazy but still more to clear up in there.. I may get rid of a small filing cabinet on wheels once I have gone thru papers.
I am sending the record player back but just arguing as to why I need to pay postage when they delivered me something v different from what I bought (smashed and cracked ) I will first put it together tonight to see if I really want one .. not played with one in years so might as well trial it (if it works!0 The crack on the top is crazy though.
Mobile phone - I need to use my airpod pros (4 years old and still going strong) to properly hear phone calls.. I think a new to me phone is imminent... I am selling my won android phone to a family member cheap but will give me some cash - think a iPhone 16 is due out in Sept so I will wait til then and see what deals are for music Magp/e 14's or 15's
my DN place of study is an hour each way from me ... so thats 4 hours travel each day to drop out.. how do parents do this and work!!! i will have to do some work one evening to keep up to date. Gorgeous day here though in London town.
Invoices/YNAB
I chased up hard and am trusting I will get some cash by 31st of the month or I will be madly shuffling ... I do love an EOM YNAB shuffle.. I bought my 12 months subscription - still got 6 months free as part of my student membership but means I have locked in lower rate $98 v $109 pa and I can earn a free month as will my referrals on it..
I have definitely blown my grocery, spending and social post this month. I had started saving for my 'next months bills' pot to get a month ahead but having to pull cash from that YNAB pot to not overspend. I really need to stop spending when a pot is all spent or work out where i am choosing to pull money from elsewhere to stop me spending..Grocery is worse as bought loads food in the house for me and DN - with her allergies and also got loads protein in
MB - has turned around - I had an amazing 3 months Q1 then second quarter I gave some gains back and now up again some - will add up Wed... I will keep my float higher as last time I popped it all in LT savings/SIPP/premium binds and so not easy to get out. So when one is down it effectively takes cash from current budget... I used to keep a huge float in there £4-5k but will scale it back and maybe add some in a savings accountDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)

It doesn't sound that many chairs to me. I have 6 dining chairs, a fold up chair, a sofa and two office chairs plus various poofs and a couple of stools that double as side tables etc.. They are spread around a house though - and I need them if family visit. I also have an outdoor sofa...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

they lovely chairs too @beanielou even my niece agrees
@savingholmes I only have a 2 bed flat no outdoor space and there are already a few things being stored (2 high stools, a table, a lamp) for the next place - I definitely need to get rid of 2.My benches are huge and can sit 3 /4 people each - luckily they slide under the table so ..DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)

I've just done a chair count (!) and realised (a) I should not buy anymore chairs and (b) I should also get rid of a couple. I'd been considering buying more for the garden, so this is a good conclusion to come to at this point.
I was trying to think what the SDC team would say and thought about our last house move and two lovely comfortable armchairs I reluctantly said goodbye to via fleabay. They just wouldn't fit in our new house, as in not enough room but also not the right style. I do miss them though, they were like having a hug, very comforting. We'd also bought them second hand, had great use out of them, and they went on for a third life - so I shouldn't regret not having them. I'm going to aim for my next sofas to have the 'hug' feeling though - its priceless."Think of many things, do one"
