Morning all.
Most dailies done, need to hoover round. I'm getting all the dog beds washed today as they are off on their holiday later. Also planning to do more pottering in the garden and I'm meeting friends at lunchtime.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.7 -
Kudos to you Honey Bear for disposing of the tins, and their contents, the hard way rather than just tipping the lot.
List is up, back to bed shortly with a coffee.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Morning all,
I am up, showered and about to have a bacon & egg butty. WM has done it's thing, and I will hang it out shortly. My busy morning yesterday meant I was wiped out when I got home, so I closed the curtains at 2pm, put on a Harry Potter and fell asleep!
I have a few niggling admin jobs that, in reality, will take minutes to do. I have written a list and will plough through those this morning. The children are having fun away and were on the beach yesterday afternoon. They are forecast rain for the rest of the week though.
In case it's of interest, our local Co-op have started a soft plastics recycling scheme. Things like bread bags, sweetie wrappers, cereal bags, crisp packets, carrier bags etc. I inevitably have a lot of soft plastic waste due to getting lots of food from the local food waste group, so I am starting to collect it all up and will drop into the Co-op once a week. It is a nationwide initiative.
HB - Disposing of those tins as you did - you are a true hero. Our planet needs more people like you xx
ETA Ten minutes later - I have just checked the post box for the first time in a few days. Whomever you are, you have such a wonderfully kind soul and I am so unbelievably lucky to have a friend like you. Sending lots of love from myself and the children to you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx9 -
Well done HB x
Your rest will have done you good, asb - but take it easy while you're on your own for the next few days x
I have done all the dailies I can fit in this morning and also rung the church electricity and gas suppliers to ask for help (readily given) in navigating their abysmally awkward website. Some web designers need to be more aware of the customers' needs!
Now I am about to go out to work for an hour - and maybe drink coffee too!
The lawn man is supposed to be coming today to spread fertiliser and/or weedkiller, and will probably turn up before I get back, so I made a big effort and got the lawnmower working yesterday afternoon while the grass was dry. I even trimmed the lawn edge too!
This afternoon I am taking a friend to the rock houses. There may be some rock cakes or scones to tempt us...
And later I have to visit a church family - mainly a social visit (they've recently moved house) but also to check on some service details.
The evening will be mine, all mine7 -
Despite my fully intending to do today's list I have just spent time in the garden, weeding and also digging up the dead blackcurrant bush. The bunnies have benefitted as the dandelions have all gone in their run. The main area weeded is the vegetable plot.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Now time for an early lunch then a film x9 -
Hoovered through, walked dogs (well, carried Poppet), started packing for holiday tomorrow. Met up for an hour with friends putting the world to rights. Will do some ironing later but book first.Spend less now, work less later.8

Just back from coffee with a friend which went on for a couple of hours. Too much to talk about, it seems.Quick lunch being had, then ensuite to be cleaned. This morning I changed and remade beds, wm x 1, rescued said washing in from the rain shower, vacuumed upstairs and cleaned the bathroom. After tackling the ensuite, I have some kitchen jobs to do, sorting out the fridge and (hopefully) prepping a meal or 2.
Iona - fascinating looking place. I had never heard of it before.6 -
Garlic butter made with four packets of butter and all the garlic I harvested late that would not have stored well - it was well on it's way to shooting! Frozen most of it, and very happy that for some weeks or months I won't have to crush any garlic each time I cook, which is the real bonus of that little job being done and dusted. 5/5 for August, and also straightened out a few kitchen drawers and did a bit of vacuuming last night, both of which were the last things I wanted to be doing but the place needs a bit of TLC, tbh.Thank you for your kind words about the tins. It feels morally wrong to chuck food that might be perfectly okay but it's a risk the Trussell Trust just won't allow us to take any more and I totally understand why. I went in to do my usual admin job at the Foodbank this morning and the manager who loaded all the tins into the van told me he'd found another eight or ten crates of dented tins that the warehouse manager had stashed somewhere else - she's on holiday this week and hadn't told him about them. So, in addition to the thanks we needed to do for everyone's help with the task I now need to set up another day of tin opening. I reckon there's probably about another 500 tins to be done which should be do-able in one day if my trusty other volunteer pitches in again. If she never wanted to see another baked bean or chopped tomato again I'd totally understand! Now to get these scavanged trays up to the attic so I can stash stuff in them in an area that's hitherto been totally unusable because the boarding isn't very good there, and I can then shift some of a mixed and muddled pile elsewhere into that space which will make life much, much easier when I need to get stuff back down again. The attic is a lot emptier than it used to be but there's still a bit more sorting out that needs to be done, and a box of photographs I'm sure is up there needs to be found. Onwards and upwards as they say.Better is good enough.8
