I don't think garden centres are the place for keeping/selling fish of any type.  They don't seem to have enough tanks to employ someone who knows what they are doing, so they land up badly kept, this is not new.  A dedicated fish shop even if they sell all 3 types tends to know what they are doing & if you check out both you can tell the difference in the quality of the fish.  I don't think they are allowed to keep cats & dogs etc in such a random manner.
That's true, some of them can't even look after their plants.  This one had a separate section which I think was like a fish shop concession within the centre, so it had lots of tanks and ponds but they often looked crowded and it was noisy and vibrating with the footfall through the area.  I wouldn't think it was ideal, though I know naff all about fish.  A welfare standard would certainly seem a good idea.

I am well out of date now by 40years,  but I do know that they don't like a lot of disturbance, that won't have changed.  We had 2 large fish worth over £100 then die because we didn't get home in time to close the curtains before a thunderstorm.  Back then you could get thrown out if you tapped the glass & I do mean tapped not rapped.

Yes some aquariums look a tad overcrowded in the garden centres. We get most of our fish from a specialist shop nearby with amazing staff who are really knowledgeable and helpful. Dh has kept fish as long as I’ve known him, but these days we only tend to keep tetras and small catfish as we’ve previously had some expensive ones roll over for no particular reason we know about.
Hope you manage to get the bedroom sorted before you get back to work.

  • Morning all,

I always hope the shops have a huge filter system that means the water is kept cleaner than the space would suggest.

EEk 10am already and I need food, there was the start of a wasp's next in the shed yesterday so I had a bit of a freak out and bashed it and then legged it back to the house. I left all my stuff in the garden..........Need to get that sorted!!

And have to take Eggs to my sister's, I really wanted to celebrate Easter properly this year but oh well.
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • I have cooked roast lamb.

I don't really like it much. I doubt I have done a good job. Makes the most Horrendous mess in the kitchen. Mum liked it.

I am still knee deep in crap. Got dive bombed by the wasp again which curtained the sorting somewhat! IT TOUCHED ME!!!!!!!

The dogs wee'd up my tool box but the rabbits were adorable. Smallest bun has got so brave she took a treat from my lovely chilled out boy (the only one who doesn't have if you stroke him) So funny, the look on his face when he realised!

Essentially the rabbits are nervy, the foster girl and my girl aren't tolerant of the smallest bun. The boys don't care.

So my stuff is still in the garden! and my room is a state!

I am watching The Anatomy of a Scandal. Really good.

  • I hate Morning Live.

    Patronising, fluffy dishonest CRAP TV.

Someone has just uttered the word Fantastic in response putting an elastic band across a paint tin so you remove the excess paint from your brush.

It might well be a good idea. But the awe inspired Fantastic was so over the top.

Mum loves it. And she is the target audience.

I would move but I need to make breakfast.

    Nevertheless she persisted.

I just don't watch tv... (with honourable exceptions for BBC wildlife, The Last Leg if I remember and an occasional astonished gawp at the people who turn up for Storage Hunters).
