    Thanks Gerry
I may well be overthinking it but apart from my new supplier confirming they will use 0.0283 as the conversion factor from the same meter, plus this factor is stated clearly on a Gov.Uk web page on gas bill calcs. I maybe forgiven for overthinking apart from being generally frugal in my gas consumption anyway. I may have to contact my new supplier because somebody is WRONG !
Thanks anyway. Every little helps in understanding this. I did not deserve a 77% increase in my bill from the old supplier anyway

If you could tell us some of your meter readings, and your tariff details, we could check the costs for you?

I think it would help us to understand what you mean by 77% if you were to give us some  readings from your old supplier say for the last 12 months - include those letters A, C and E please.

What consumption did you give to your new supplier ?

The government website could hardly be clearer.
The gas company will be expecting you to provide readings in hundreds of cubic feet by ignoring anything shown in red.  They will then do their sums using 2.83 as the conversion factor and get the right number of kWh.
You can choose to buck the system by thinking in terms of actual cubic feet when your keeping your own records and using 0.0283 in your own calculations, but you can't mix and match the units to make your consumption 100 times smaller than it actually is.

My monthly payment to my old supplier and  based on an estimate of “ changing weather patterns was going to increase from £50 to £88. My apologies, that is 57%. The calculator gave me at the time 77% and I accepted it at the time. Still an unacceptable increase for a pensioner however

You were (almost) right the first time.  £50 increasing by £38 is an increase of 76%.

I will look at the website again
I do not recall seeing 100’s of cu ft on the page I was reading other than where it said “IF the meter reads in 100’s of cu.ft…….” It spoke directly about old meters that read in cu.ft. which is what I have.
Maybe I am finally losing it. Will see
Funny how my new supplier confirmed they will be using 0.0283 ?? A clear email.

Robin9 Maybe that’s how it gave me the 77% figure the way it worked it out

It seems I was right enough after all
Maybe this calculator like me, isn’t as quick anymore !
Still too much confusion at the moment. Especially from my new supplier
Thanks for giving me the time
