For those who don't know, you can claim back the tax via HMRC, if eligible.  I think it's called R40.

Might be some consolation for those that got less.

I only found this forum searching details on my letter because I was originally skeptical and not getting much info from Santander, after seeing messages from people here about how their letter was indeed correct I rang them.

I’ll be receiving £100 more than my original letter. I can’t believe this and it’s such a relief to know I have this coming and can clear my cards. Thanks to everyone posting I was aware of what the situation was.

Snap, my letter also turned up just now, all confirms settlement due within 10 working days from 6th July. The figures were exactly as advised by the Customer Service agent yesterday morning.

I’d like to think they’ll pay them swiftly given the upheaval, but I’m in no immediate rush.

    Good luck all.

Just got letter - up £40 - phew!
  • Thank you Caz for creating this post, it's proved invaluable as it was the only resource available for many worried about their letter when Santander remained tight lipped.

Thank you too for the calm way that you dealt with the virtue signalers trying to hijack a post to up their posting stats - you are  a credit to the MSM family!

Thanks again and I'm pleased to see that many are getting slightly more
  • Yes, thanks Caz for starting the post. I was great to know that they had made a mistake. I received my correction letter today.   I am down £900 but something is better than nothing

When a bank sends you a letter stating you are due are refund and 'you do not need to do anything, payment will be made in 10 working days' you feel positive that you will receive the money. Yes its all well and good saying wait until you have it before you spend it but it WAS CONFIRMED IN WRITING. It is very irresponsible of them.
It's very irresponsible to spend money that you don't have just because you feel positive, I don't think the letters are legally binding on them though.

Even if you had received the money and they noticed a mistake, then they could reclaim it.

Not sure why you felt the need to reply days after this, it contributes nothing. My post didn't say I had spent money did it? I was referring to a previous post.
