I did manage to call them. My figure has gone up by £15. Payment is going to be made within 10 working days from today.

It is a massive relief but originally money should have been received by today.
  • Hi everyone, I am in the same boat that I received the letter, then got told there was an error.  I got through today to a lovely boy and the amount has gone up, the boy couldn't explain why, however, it has gone up by roughly £100.  I could cry I am so happy, this was so unexpected!

Awesome news for you both.  I'm so happy for you.  At least it's not less or nil!

I’ve just got through. Mine has reduced by £200. New letter (not received yet) is dated 6th July and is 10 days from then

Just got through to Santander and they confirmed that the new letters were issued on 6th July and my amount had also gone up slightly. Great news and a huge relief that it didn’t go down to an insignificant amount. Good luck all and fingers crossed for you.  It took 25 minutes of being only hold though…
  • I'm just off the phone with them and my amount has gone up by......£4

Pretty shocking that they made such a mistake. Up to ten days from the 6th.

I called back as everyone else had been given new figures! My info has finally been uploaded and my original figure was correct! Such a relief!
He seemed a bit unsure on payment date, he said 10 working days from today, but the lady this morning said letters had already been sent and it would be 10 days from the date on the letter? Never mind, at least I know I’m still getting it!
    Good luck everyone

Cazzaroo said:Fair enough about the time taken for letters to be processed and go out but in that case why not put people out of their misery and tell them over the phone what's going on, if they ring up.  I asked if I was still due a refund and was told...probably. What sort of a response is that?!  They knew once people found out they would be inundated with calls from stressed out people.  They should have been better prepared.  Customers shouldn't be expected to be satisfied with a letter in possibly 2 weeks time, for an answer.
From having worked on front line, we are often the last to know....

But can see you have got a answer & in the positive (just) 👀

There will simply not be  enough staff to call everyone due a letter, Would guess you are looking at thousands of customers affected given the size of Santander. and as you have seen there is not a one size answer that fits all, other than when it will be applied & letter in post. Bet the 6th is when the run started. Not when they left the building.

I get people want a answer ASAP, but in cases like this it is not possible. Find the error, correct the error. Then start the whole process over again. But will pull maybe 10% of letters to check them this time before they all go out.
1st time they will have expected them to have been right. Clearly someone dropped a clanger on the working out of refund & 8% statutory interest.
They will now be suffering big time for a mistake like this.. And so they should.
