Worcester Bosch 28i boiler banging noise

  • Sorry about the fault returning .

Watching this thread with interest now and of course intrigued .
Fwiw , the problems I had were in the winter . Of course this meant that the heating was on . When the Worcester Bosch engineer serviced the boiler, it was spring time and heating was off . Maybe my problem will return also( 🤞it won't ) .

I can't remember if I mentioned earlier that I have made the decision to use Worcester's  own engineers to service my boiler annually . This means my guarantee which has another 7 years approx should be valid , and in theory if I have problems within that time Worcester Bosch have to rectify etc . Costs a bit more , but I just feel more comfortable doing so.

Hope your boiler gets sorted ..

BG turned up with the spare part. Was a little bit of plastic that looks like a headphone ear bud. Wasn't what he was expecting as there was no image of it on his screen when he odered it. He phoned Worcester bosch who confirmed it was the right part.
Anyway, this part is right at the back of the boiler, so everything dismantled and turned out it was the wrong part.
New part ordered, which is a spring loaded valve which he was able to see an image of on his tablet, also they are going to order and replace the return manifold as well.

So that will be a new diverter valve, new pump, new spring loaded valve and new return manifold. Hopelly that will solve it when the part arrives! Certainly getting my moneys worth for £99!

  • Anyway our problem was a blocked condensate pipe. Engineer from local firm took it off & cleaned it problem solved.
Interesting. I suppose that is another downside with an aluminium alloy heat exchanger — presumably it was gunked up with ally corrosion products?  Wouldnt get that with stainless steel . .

Good that you got it identified and fixed

Not sure what was in it, my wife was home at the time. It seems he cleaned the condensate trap not the actual pipe.

Yes, all the debris should end up there.
A few years back I found my GlowWorm was dripping from under the casing. Turned out to be a blocked - and overflowing - condensate trap. Full of blackish gritty stuff.
It's a SS exchanger, so not sure what the source is. Mind you, outside air is being drawn in all the time, so could it be fine dust, aggregated together with condensate?

Anyhoo, pRogue, you do know you've had a lucky escape, don't you? I mean, if you'd ended this thread with "Fixed at last! It was a wee plastic thing that looks like an ear bud...", we would have hunted you down, and we would have youknowhat...
  • Glad that you seem to be getting it sorted at last P R  🤞
I'm just wondering , how old do you think your boiler is ?
Only reason I'm asking , is that my boiler is now just over a year old.
It does make you wonder about quality control etc . Seeing as I had same issue and new part already in the spring .
    Just a thought ...

Boiler is about 10 years old. I had a Worcester Bosch in my old house for 15 years which was the Greenstar version and never had a single issue with it - Every engineer has says that the Greenstar was the perfect boiler..
  • It's finally fixed! Not a single clunk or click can be heard from the boiler once it's powered down!
4 engineers,6 visits and a handful of parts and it's finally sorted! :D

I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
