That is the most plausible answer so far.I originally suggested E7 as that is the most common 2 rate tariff, but in order to offer 'Free weekends' they would have to have used a 2nd register to accumulate the free energy.I'd mark this as problem solved and in future only give the Rate 1 reading, not the total import.

They can change which register is used in future for energy used and can cause it to be recorded in multiple registers, but for security and accountability they can't alter what has already been recorded.

Time-date-credit mode blank-standing charge blank- total act import 24539- rate 01 act import 21191-rate 02 act import 3348- meter balance 000
Eon are saying total act import is from my solar I do not have solar. Have i gave eon the wrong number and it should have been the 21191 reading as that would be more inline with my final BG reading.Well it seems like we've found the mysterious 3348kWh, at least - they're on your Rate 02 register.I agree with others that it appears BG were only ever billing you on the Rate 01 register. What we don't currently know is when those kWh were used. Was the smart meter fitted while you've been in the house, or did you move into the house and inherit the meter from a previous occupier?

This explains it. BG used rate 2 to record the free electricity. When you came off that tariff rate 2 wouldn't have advanced any further. You need to give eon the rate 1 reading and ask for a revised bill. You may have issues in the future when your meter is commissioned to the DCC if they then start sending the total read to eon.0

I would tell E.ON that you just made a mistake and gave them the reading from the wrong register. In general terms, we should always be giving the reading from Register 1, not the total import. It works OK to use total import for those who have never had a 2 rate tariff as the two would be the same, but if you have ever had a 2 rate tariff then it will be wrong.2

I'm with @MWT. Tell Eon that you gave them the wrong reading and give them the correct one. Tell BG that you now realise you read the wrong register so do no want to make a meter reading dispute. You gave Eon the wrong handover reading but the adjudicator ignored it so that doesn't matter.Reed1

Well BG have not got back to me yet eon have asked for pics of meter readings and have said they will update my account to dual rate. But say I will still be billed for the units in rate 02 which I think are units i used for free under British Gas. So basically got no where with eon other than it will take 14days to update my account to dual meter readings. Told me when i submit readings in future i have to submit rates 01 and 02.

Told me when i submit readings in future i have to submit rates 01 and 02.It is very important that this doesn't happen.Tell them you do not want a dual rate tariff as you have not been on one for some considerable time, and that register 1 is the only register that is updating and that is the only one you should be reporting. You may have to escalate this to get some sense out of this, but this is the way it works when you change from a 2-rate to a single rate tariff as happened some time ago with BG..The 2nd register will not update and all consumption will be recorded on rate 1.

Thanks that is what i kept telling eon i do not want a dual rate tariff and that I can only presume it was from way back years ago with the free electricity. They just kept saying its been escalated to put me on dual readings and they have requested my final reading to be checked. They said i will be charged the full amount for the extra units in rate 2. I told them i wanted it escalated to complains and someone higher. As if the rate 02 is in fact as we think is free electricity from BG back in 2014,15 then why should i pay.

The point to keep them focused on is that at some point in the past the meter was operating as a dual rate meter but it was changed to single rate some time ago and was in single rate mode when it was switched to them so the only rate that matters is rate 1.You were on a single rate tariff and you switched to a single rate tariff and you want to stay that way...Unfortunately the front-line staff you are dealing with are used to having meters that can only be one thing or the other, they have not yet seen too many cases of smart meters that were switched from one mode to the other. If you can access your old BG bills you should find the meter reading for register 2 on those bills up to the end of the promotional period and the meter readings should match up...1
