Be careful how much abuse you give the actual plates as they can go rusty.[/QUOTE]
They already are, like so many rented houses the tenants just do not seem to bother about things like that, its not theirs so they just abuse things and then leave it for some idiot like me who comes along and cleans it.
This morning I have cleaned about 10 years muck from the window in the sittin room it was disgusting, I have had tpo throw the cloth away, no way could I use it again.
I do not know anyone with a steam cleaner but will bear it in mond when I am scrubbing away trying to get the much off.Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Hi csarina,
There's an earlier thread with advice and tips on cleaning a hob that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the ideas together.

I have a black hob and believe it or not I pour cola (cheap carp from Asda)on top of the hob and turn on all the hotplates to heat the top of the stove when the cola is steaming I turn everything off and leave it to cool then I get a nylon scourer and scrub it is amazing what comes off. As for hotplates my friend the white goods engineer advised me to smear the rings with cooking oil evry 3 months and turn on to burn the oil off, this keeps the rings free of rust.
This is a brainwave I had after seeing how cola cleaned burnt pans - I used to use salt and a brillo pad but this is so much easierBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Sugar Soap from a pound shop or DIY shop, in a spray bottle ideally, will take any gunk off really nicely!
Poundland usually have it, a bright yellow liquid. Pic from wickes http://www.wickes.co.uk/Sugar-Soap/invt/154903 but don;t pay £3 for it, joke!

Hi, in my house I've got black electric hobs, they're really dirty, I don't think they've had a proper clean in years (it's a student house)! I want to clean them properly, but I don't want to damage them in any way. I've tried using diluted solutions but it hasn't really worked and has just left a nasty smell when you turn them on! If anyone has a home recipe so to speak that would be great! Or even to go out and buy something, as long as it's not really expensive, any tips would be fab! Thanks!0

Hi,
I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to clean the plates on an electric hob ?
Mine seem to have gone kind of rusty!:o
I have searched but I can only find how to clean ceramic and gas hobs, so sorry if this has been asked umpteen times before.:o
I have tried stardrops and biological washing powder, both of which clean the actual stainless steel hob brilliantly but I can't seem to get the hot plates clean.
Thanks

I seem to remember that when i had an electric cooker I cleaned the plates (ok, OH did them on Sundays) with a brillo pad then rinsed them off. but they did eventually look really tatty so I bought those covers with pretty designs on them. then bought a gas cooker and hob. problem over.0
