Ok this is my cooker, had it a few years, and expecting the royal visit from my parents at Christmas.
the hobs are a bit rusty,
how can i clean these up.
Already cleaned the nasty's off the glass panels with bicarb of soda and a paint scrapper and they have come up brilliantly (thanks aggie)0 -
I used something on a second hand one I bought years ago (Moved house ten years ago) so probably don't sell it now
but scouring the internet found this
http://www.bdbgb.com/collo-hob-black_43_48.htm
I used to wipe them over after the initial scrubbing and rejuvinating with a ligh oil on a piece of kitchen roll maintained the lustre - have to burn it off when you cook though

Thank you.
finally found that a scourer with soap is recommended which i have just done, and then followed instructions to warming up then oiling.
Looks better, but can look loads better, and would you say it is easy to use?
OMG just had a shock went to buy it for £5.97 and delivery charge is £5.00
Thank god just found it on ebay for £7.99 no delivery charge0 -
My electric hob was disgusting when we moved in here. It is stainless steel. I used some of the oven shelf cleaner I had to get the worst off the hob, painted it round the rings with an old paint brush, then scrubbed the plates themselves with a brillo pad and applied the hob restorer. You have to leave the kitchen whilst it 'cures' otherwise the fumes would choke you, shut the door as well, the first time I did it I set off the smoke alarm ahd all the farm staff here with buckets of water and sand!!
I wipe the hob with a tiny bit of oil on a kitchen towel and it comes up great. I wipe the hob over everyy night after the supper dishes have been washed, clean the plates once a month, a swidt wipe over with a little oil keeps them looking ok in between.
The shelf cleaner is brilliant if all other efforts fail, I had tried the soaking in the bath etc, still had baked on grease left, put them in the bag with the stuff and left them outside for 3 days, turned them over each day, came up sparkling, just the odd stubborn bit to scrape off with a craft knife. I also used some on a heavy grease stain on the floor of the oven, painted it on and left it again for a couple of days, wiped it off with kitchen paper, just had to use a brillo on the last stubborn bits. Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
If the hob is really dirty, with ingrained grease (burned on), then I would start off with an abrasive cleaner like Astonish or Hob Brite. Once you have cleaned it, then it only needs a quick squirt with a multi surface cleaner, like they sell in pound shops and the like.
Mind you, if you drop milk on the hob, then it tends to be more difficult to remove.0 -

Cover it with a cloth soaked in water. Leave to soften and it will then be easy to wipe off
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to give you more suggestions.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Hi,
Just wondering what each of you use to clean the top of your cooker? The top of mine is dark and shows up every bit of dirt! I have (sorry i cannot think what they are called)on top of where you would put the pots etc looks like a rack?? anyway it looks very dirty and greasy, what could i use to make it spotless again?
Sorry for the mistakes in my post my head is somewhere else!
Thanks

either stardrops https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/354039 or some http://www.telekit.ca/en/products/astonish.php which you can get from £ stretcher, i suspect you can get it from wilko's and other places too. Really cheap, gentle but good abrasion for getting tough grease and dirt off.Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0

Hi, I know what you mean, Our cooker is a dark colour as well. I just give it a quick wipe over with the dishcloth using the washing up water.
Does that sound a bit skanky, it does now I think about it, but not at the time, I just see it as hot soapy water.

I use Ast0nish paste once a week on my ancient gas hob; also, a quick squirt of diluted St@rdrops every time it's used.
It keeps it as good as it's ever going to be, bearing in mind it's well over 20 years old, and I've only been looking after it for half that.:o
Ooh, just read that back, and it looks like I was a lazy mare til 10 years ago; not so - that's when I moved in with the lovely Mr LW.;):DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
