I will try and fly this weekend, not sure how much will get done this afternoon as am feeling very tired. Too many late nights and early starts this week have caught up with me. But plenty of successes too.
DD1 had her exam results, not as well placed as she would have liked but she still has some choices of what speciality and where to go. It did mean we went to pick her up and bring her home for a night so she wasn't left alone feeling down. DD2 has now started her permanent job and after visiting great places and being refused and visiting terrifying places she has now found herself a nice appartment to rent from next week. OH has had more info on the restructuring at work and it looks like he will leave in the spring of next year, which he is very happy about. I had my 2nd jab this morning and OH has his this afternoon. So feeling very thankful and positive.
But do need to get on with sorting this house and garden.
Nagging admin task done this morning whilst I was out.

Pigpen its not easy for them finding jobs, but then its not easy for you either and if your grown up kids are anything like mine they see their Mum as being invincible, sorting everything out for everyone, making stuff happen, finding money to pay the bills, finding food to feed everyone etc. etc. I guess that's a compliment in a way, but sometimes we need a bit of practical help with all this stuff x
So, DH's job was cancelled today due to the weather, and I finished early. After it stopped raining I had this urge to go to the seaside and have chips for tea. Got there and it was freezing cold and pouring down. We had fish and chips in a cheap and cheerful cafe, walked on the seafront a short way, then headed home. It was so lovely to have a proper conversation as we seem to both be constantly working at the moment.
Need to get caught up on some flying tomorrow and I have household admin to do. I want to ride my bike too if I can.
Sleepy now!10 -
Just about keeping up with stuff here, but have been in a pretty bright mood lately so quite laid back about anything I haven't managed.
Uni: I did my last face to face assessment on Wed and brought all my resources home a) to have a good sortout and b) in case I don't win another contract. I tried not to think too much about 'this could be your last day ever on this campus'. So now I have 3 reports to write up, 1 is nearly finished.
Admin generally: after a bit of an argument with gmail, I spent a long time yesterday culling old emails. Tried to be unemotional and ruthless about them. Have made a big dent but need to cull more. Quite a lot more admin in the 'must be done in the next week' pile, ranging from finishing an online course, dealing with a pension choice, bills etc.
Flying: well the less said about it the better. It isn't bad, but wouldn't say spotless. But relaxed about knowing the reports and the admin must come first.
Slinkiness: hopeless. Still trying to keep up with the exercising but ditto about other things having to take up time. A few eating habits need to be broken.....I think my metabolism has just stopped.
Garden: doing well. Our marathon list is being gradually worked through although it needs updating and doubtless will get to marathon status again. Had our first mangetout pea today.......yes, I'm hoping there will be more to come, not just one pea... Last year's spinach/chard has started going to seed so I have frozen a load then made some bubble & squeak with it this eve, incorporating butternut squash instead of potato as I can't eat the latter. Made enough for tomorrow or the freezer.
Weekend plan: apart from all the above, plus drum practice, I have a flower arrangement to do do for a church friend who married an African lady nearly 2 yrs ago....then covid happened so she has been stuck over there while her husband is here. She is currently in quarantine at Heathrow but due 'out' on Monday so I thought it might be nice to take something round.
Mr N and I also need to plan the next few weeks as he has been given 8 July as his cataract op date. He has to strictly socially distance (although not isolate) until 3 days before, then have a covid test after which he has to self-isolate until after the op, so I will have to do the same. Of course it coincides exactly with the week we'd planned to go down to finish off the fencing he helped his brother with, then stay with my mum. I also have to book a hospital appointment around whatever fits in with when he's not able to drive.
OK time for bed or I'll be in the WAC. Happy vibes everyone.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.11 -
Missing everybody!
Today's plan:
- sort website access x2
- move some emails to folders
- delete unwanted emails
- help DH
- pot up the tomato plants
- edge the lawn
- pull up some weeds
- make fish pie for this evening and find something for lunch
- go out for a walk on the common with Rosie and DH if it's not pouring with rain - we're right on the edge of the front and the weather forecasters can't decide whether or not we're going to get wet
- watch my friend's ordination service online
- late evening meal
- fill the evening with some TV that will make me smile - probably Michael Palin followed by George Clarke

Thank you so much everyone who has made suggestions about what to do regarding the message about our Microsoft programmes being hooky. Turns out - they are. The person who has been our brilliant techie for the past 22 years has been ducking and diving around t'internet to get us cheap / freebie software loaded on the hardware we've bought from him. He's absolutely brilliant at fixing things when they go wrong, he's super-quick and if he says we have to do this, then that's what we're going to have to do. Nmm, I'm particularly grateful for your messages, and can't thank you enough for being so helpful. Kazwookie, no-one seems to have mentioned this issue on the Techie boards lately, but maybe that's because Belovéd and I are late to this party, or very early. Who knows. Either way, we've decided to opt for the £7 a month for an unlimited number of computers in the house direct from Microsoft. Like Bill Gates needs the money. But if I reframe and think of it as a contribution to the eradication of malaria worldwide, I'm okay with it. Our techie has saved us a fortune over the years so I can't complain (much).Between us we've swished and swiped pretty much the whole house this week but I wouldn't want anyone to stare at any part of it for any length of time. My dusting mitts are brilliant, so I'm going to make some microfibre mitts with the overlocker to start making myself get used to it.I put a whole load of gardening gibble out on the pavement and within 36 hours almost all of it had gone. The last thing, a box of small pots, is now on Gumtree as a Freebie. The nicest thing about it was that masses of people apparently carefully selected just one or two items they wanted and left the rest. A neighbour took the nicest ceramic pot (unstable, much too wide at the top and narrow at the bottom for me), someone took just the brassica netting, the one trough and multiple trays gradually disappeared over the entire time, and Belovéd found three very pretty young women carefully going through the box of pots saying, 'This is so good! This one will be perfect for my ....' It's filled me with great happiness, as I thought it was most likely that someone with a van would pull up and take the lot, but I underestimated how selfless people are - a lovely thing to recognise. The freezer, Kaz, had to go to the tip - it was the lid that was the problem. One of the hinges had broken so it wouldn't have been vermin proof as the lid was very light.I've also done all of the other Gumtree listings at last, having procrastinated for months over that little task. It took all day but everything was measured and photographed so there shouldn't be too many queries about anything.Tomatoes still not repotted, yard still a complete tip but things are progressing slowly.Better is good enough.9

Morning all. Hope you're all ok.
This morning I have done the dailies and been for a really long walk with the dogs on a new to us route. Had a lovely chat with another dog walker too. Since getting back I have baked some part baked rolls for lunch and done a negative Covid test. Greenhouse is watered and washing is on line.
I need to top up vases next and do some essential admin. Family are coming round later and we're finally having the meal we couldn't have on Boxing Day.
An update on Poppet - she has another cancerous lump but following tests we've decided still against chemotherapy as she is still lively and eating and we've got her symptoms under control.Spend less now, work less later.8 -
Hello ladies, sorry for not posting i do read along just don't post enough, must try harder. Hugs, sticks and spoons readily available, help yourself.
Flying has consisted of dailies only this week, i have decluttered more wool by gifting it to a friend to make worry worms, currently stitching 2 cross stitch cards, more declutteringOH has his pre-assessment next month then the splenectomy should go ahead, not sure if i said but its keyhole surgery so only a few days stay.
HB, wish i could've helped more to save you paying for windows, i hate that as most people got windows 10 free after the win 8 fiasco. As a side note anyone seen the windows 11 preview, how awful does that look. Also really happy to hear about the people enjoying your freebies.Cross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:11 -
