Can you not ask your midwife to do one for you in the next week?

I'd prefer it over an artificial induction any day of the week.

Ive been booked in on the 19th for a check up before I go in, so if nothing happens naturally before then she said she would have another go.

Really didn't want to have to be induced :(

No but I guess it has to come out one way or another. A new baby for Christmas is a lovely gift :happylove

I had a sweep by my midwife which didn't work and had another by a very big man who virtually pushed me off the bed he pushed so hard. It worked though, I went into labour an hour and a half later!!!!!

Errrrr, natural prostaglandins - we all know where they come from don't we?

Can't you tempt your partner and get him involved?

    Margaret

My midwife told me that they were best taken orally too! :o

(Which wasn't easy, considering I was staying in the hospital :o ) TMI I know. I'll get my coat...

With a sweep we are talking about natural prostaglandins being secreted which is totally different to artificial means, and certainly different to the method you describe above. Professionally, had to highlight this as something not to be recommended.

I do see what you are saying but what I am saying is the EPO irritates the cervix instead of someones fingers , therefore trying to "kid" it into releasing the natural hormones as a sweep performed by a professional would .

I was under the impression that I'd had a sweep on my 1st, but reading some of the responses on here about what a sweep entails and how painful it is, I think I must have just had a rather vigorous internal!! Long story, but I was in hospital early hours of the morning, a couple of days overdue, thinking I was having contractions, and the midwife did an internal (which almost lifted me off the bed!) and I said that I wasn't (having contractions). I was sent back to the ward to await the doctor on his/her rounds at 9ish next morning, but I turned over on the bed at about 6am, heard a "bang" and it was like Niagara Falls gushing out of my foof (quite a disturbing experience). Therefore, I presumed when I thought back, that the midwife had helpfully done a sweep while checking if I was having contractions.

Apparently though (to try to put your mind at rest Ants) it's not so common for your waters to go with a bang like that, they more often just trickle out (such as what happened with DS). But I think if you have the same bursting forth of the waters as me with DD, which had all manner of nasties in it as well, then I fear for your mattress!!!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
