That's so wierd, my sister said that too, that having a sweep was more painful than the actual labour and birth.

It just wasn't anywhere near as bad with either of mine.

I wonder if it depends on who does it? I certainly would personally recommend it to anyone who is being pushed down the route of a chemical induction (which led me personally to have a GA & emergency CS with my first).

The sweeps with my second and third children allowed me to have to have normal VBACs which I personally doubt would have happened if I'd had to go down the prostin route again.

oooh a pee sheet! hope theres some kind of warning before they go just incase. dont want to have to swim out of bed!
Well I didn't, just felt like I'd wet myself both times this happened. But it didn't flood the bed and I did have a waterproof sheet on! :rotfl:

Anyway, better your own bed than your neighbour's car, which is where one friend's waters broke ... :rotfl:

    Good luck.

Just relax with it. I found it easier by holding b/fs hand and counting back slowly from ten with him whilst breathing deeply. I didn't find it that painful, more uncomfortable and it's over quickly enough.

It's worth taking/wearing some protection as you can bleed a little....like a "show" (completely normal as they are stretching the cervix - sorry if tmi). And try and keep relatively active during the day afterwards.

  • Stuff the sweep (think cervical smear, but much worse as it's not a cold plastic or metal thing going erm up there, and it doesn't dig around so to speak), go for polo mints and fresh orange juice.

Worked wonders for me (in labour within hours of taking this, and tasted a lot better too).

Good luck to all who are due, and don't forget or be too proud to take all the drugs offered, some or all combined do eventually work on the pain.

I'm feeling sick just thinking about that combination, and I'm not even pregnant! :rotfl:
