Well I didn't, just felt like I'd wet myself both times this happened. But it didn't flood the bed and I did have a waterproof sheet on! :rotfl:

Anyway, better your own bed than your neighbour's car, which is where one friend's waters broke ... :rotfl:

My work colleague's waters broke over my desk! She was sat on the edge of it , leaning over to ask me about something on my screen when suddenly this dampness appeared...

I did give her a lift to hospital ;) Baby appeared very quickly too

I swear I will never let a doctor near me again to perform a sweep. It was the most painful experience of my life and he couldn't even finish it. Imagine amazingly sharp pains in your most tender of areas whilst lying on a bed with your knees apart and your bum propped up on a pillow. I would much rather stick it out for another couple of days then have to go through that again.

Being booked in for an induction seems to work with quite a lot of overdue women. I know of loads including myself who went into labour less than 24 hours before going in to be induced.

it dont help either that us women dont particularly enjoy strangers sticking their hands up our fannys. why cant your partner be taught how to do a sweep? im sure theyd be far more careful and gentle.
There's someone in my head, but it's not me

    Classic ! :rotfl:

I personally didn't find my sweep that painful .

And a good tip for starting off labour is Evening primrose Oil capsules , insert 2 or 3 down below and then lie back and let them dissolve . The oil then irritates the cervix , much like a sweep does . I done this with No 2 and my waters went within 45 mins , albeit I did insert 3 x 1300 mgs capsules , like bloody bullets they were lol , and afterwards realised I should have only used the 250mgs ones !
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

As a midwife, I have to say (naturally!) that Drs are not the best people to do sweeps. Also, for those having an internal I always tell them to open their mouthts in an 'O' shape and breath in an out of it like that. It is very difficult to tighten up down below if you are breathing like that!

Not recommended. No way of being able to monitor baby for any signs of distress, as would be done with a medical induction of labour.

Same goes if a sweep starts you off as well , you are not hooked up to a monitor until you get to hospital . I understand what you are saying buy even naturally a baby can get in distress and until you reach the labour ward you really are none the wiser .

With a sweep we are talking about natural prostaglandins being secreted which is totally different to artificial means, and certainly different to the method you describe above. Professionally, had to highlight this as something not to be recommended.

Errrrr, natural prostaglandins - we all know where they come from don't we?

Can't you tempt your partner and get him involved?

Can you not ask your midwife to do one for you in the next week?

I'd prefer it over an artificial induction any day of the week.
