Breast Feeding discussion

As far as alcohol goes, one unit is okay, but if you are drinking more than that then you should allow 2 hours per unit before breastfeeding, but you don't need to pump and dump, once the alcohol is out of YOUR system, it has gone from the breastmilk too.
Good to know - I had a girls' night out last night!

If I ate onions it used to give my eldest stomach ache. He hates onions even now.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

It's odd, but for me, the big "nos" when breastfeeding all three of my children have been:
Oranges or orange juice.......has given them wind and upset tummies
Tomatoes.......for same reason (although I did eat tomatoes, I just tried to keep it down a little)
Anything too spicy.........really upset their tummies
So I just had pretty bland food in the beginning, although as they got bigger, they all seemed to grow a little more tolerant.
It could have just been a me thing though, but it's funny that it was with all three of them."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I didn't avoid anything, and nothing I ate or drank affected Charlotte. We tend to eat a lot of spicy and garlic foods, so hopefully any tastes she got in the breastmilk will help her for when she tries the dishes we normally eat.
I did have a couple of cans of Guinness and was quite shocked when she did a Guinness scented poo though  :rotfl:Here I go again on my own....0 -
I used to drink guiness too.
Not just because I loved it, but beacuse it helped my youngest sleep a little better.
 Maybe I should have made him drink it as he didn't start sleeping through until he was nearly five.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Can anyone help???
I have decided to stop bf as lo is due to go to nursery in 5 weeks when I go back to work.
Now he is 8 months old and has always been breastfed, should I be giving him normal baby milk or follow on milk? Can anyone recommend a brand? What should he be having it in bottle, beaker or sippy cup and how often?
Soooo many questions, so much easier to breastfeed, so sad its ending!!
Thanks

I put my DD on to a bottle at about the same age, Normal baby milk, but things might have changed that was many years ago. Follow on milk I believe says on the can what age to give it from.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

If i remember correctly it's recommended that babies don't have cow milk until 12 months old. My son had SMA follow on milk but i think it will just depend on which one your son prefers the taste of. My son wouldn't touch cow and gate or aptimil. It might be best to speak to your health visitor although i don't think they are allowed to recommend any brand they will advise you on the best way to make this transition (by dropping a feed at a time and substituting i think). Sorry if this is vague but my son is 2.5 and it feel slike forever ago! Good Luck x0 -
Thanks Shelley I have bought some SMA follow on from Tescos last night as I thought I should maybe start stocking up.
With regards to HV she isnt the most helpfullest, I have noticed that last couple of weeks, days his feeds have dropped (so have my boobs
, they're shrinking by the day!), so I havent got that much milk anymore.
Thanks Sarah0
