is there any reason why you can't express your milk and just bottle it for your ickle one?
this way your baby will still get the best and it keeps the cost down.1st son born 11/02/05 2nd son born 09/01/08
thats all i'm adding to the human race so think yourselfs lucky lol0 -
I think a sippy cup should be fine, as long as you can get your baby used to it before you start work.
You can continue breastfeeding when you're working. Your breasts will adjust to different times and reduced demand. I carried on feeding after I returned to work when ds3 was one.
In fact, it'll probably be pretty painful to go cold turkey. :eek:0 -
i would try a brand of bottles called nuby cups they are half way between bottles and beakers and saves you trying to wean off the breast to bottles then wean from bottles to beakers in a few months.
i used aptamil as it is meant to taste similar to breastmilk
also step three milks have iron in them and one and two do notas babies need more iron after six months0 -
I agree with the above poster about the Nuby cups, my son loved them, you find them in Asda. The midwife that run my antenatal course recommended Aptamil to those who didn't breastfeed.0

Thanks Shelley I have bought some SMA follow on from Tescos last night as I thought I should maybe start stocking up.
I strongly advise you against stocking up until you have found a milk that agrees with your baby,
We started our son on SMA gold because he had already had a 30ml top up feed of it while in hospital and we thought as he finished it with no problems that it would be alright, it gave him terrible stomach problems and we could barely get an oz of milk into him every 5 hours, he was sleepy, listless and very irritable when you touched his belly and to our horror he lost nearly a lb of his birth weight...
we changed to Aptimil first and he was a different baby overnight, its taken 2 weeks but he is finally discovering his appetite, eating about as much as he should be and is almost back to his birth weight (should be over it when he gets weighed this thursday)
obviously some babies thrive on SMA (but i wouldnt recommend it to anyone after seeing the effect it had on Danny and I was shocked by the amount of people (friends and health professionals) that were not surprised that SMA had given him bowel problems)
and some babies dont like Aptimil... all children are different!
but until you have found a milk that your baby likes, dont fill the cupboard!0 -
I stopped b/f my son at 7 months, we tried all sorts of beakers and bottles, but didn't really get much milk into him until we used tommee tippee bottles- the ones which are similar shape to a breast, which he took to well. It did take about a week of him refusing anything from me though as all he wanted was breast milk! We used SMA for hungrier babies as he has such a large appetite and was still waking every 2 hours in the night for milk. When we changed to formula he started sleeping through! I used to give him 3 x 8 oz bottles in a 24hr period, found this was enough as he was eating 3 good meals a day. Hope the transition from breast to bottle goes well for you and your LO.Feb 2008 Grocery Challenge £160, Spent £163.48

I would advise fiding a milk that you baby enjoys - follow on milk is fine at this age. As for bottle/cup etc - if he will take a feeder cuo then go for it - saves having to move from a bottle to cup later on.0

I would suggest trying a feeder cup for milk straightaway. Why introduce a bottle now(another battle later?)I recommend the tommee tippee cups, freeflow.
Good luck
