A rarity these days - an improved product, no price rise:   Aldi "Gianni's" Neopolitan Ice Cream Wafers.  8x 90ml, £1.35

These now have improved creamier ice cream, nicer wafers, and different wrappers, suggesting a new supplier.
  • Aldi has its Christmas goodies out, I bought these for £1.49 earlier:

I am sure they were just 99p last year. Or maybe it was Tesco, 3 bags for £3? Either way they are an expensive treat now.

So much to read, so little time.

If I see someone behind me with one or two items I ask if they would like to go ahead of me. However recently Aldi have installed self scan tills & I would rather use those if I don't have a stack of stuff. Sometimes the staff on the selfscan are lovely & helpful- at other times.......a pain!
I do the same - especially if you spot somebody with kids in tow or obviously trying to get in and out quickly on their break.  That's why I don't understand why others will be so oblivious.  I expect they feel they are entitled to go first as they got there first or they figure their busy day is more important than mine.

On the other hand I've had the offer of going ahead and declined when I'm not in a hurry.  I always hope this will make people offer more often at other times.
If someone is behind me with just a couple of items I normally ask them if they want to go before me.
Someone please tell me what money is

Later this week, for the first time in quite a long time I intend to do my weekly shop at Aldi rather than Lidl. Firstly to check out the range on offer, but most importantly to see if their stock levels on the things I tend to buy are better, which at my local Lidl has been a bit of an ongoing issue in recent times. I don't expect it to be any cheaper, but if stock levels are consistently better than that will be a big advantage.

Lidl does have the bakery, but I've have been cutting out non-essentials from my shop including bakery items, so going somewhere that doesn't have one isn't a disadvantage anymore. The Lidl app coupons were something I used quite often when it first started, but I've noticed the offers are far less frequently for stuff I tend to buy. I can't remember the last coupon I used now. And as for the weekend offers, I wouldn't be surprised if they've now stopped for good.
I have cut out the non-essentials too and the reductions of 15 or 20% on the app this week wasn't anything I would normally buy except the Newgate soup with 20% off, I would normally pick up a tin or two but forgot. I still saved 30% off two 1Kg gammon joints and two slices of gammon so a £3.94 saving wasn't that bad

I was a Lidl shopper (out of the two German chains) however that changed this summer with the opening of a new Aldi store less than 5 minutes walk from home. I've even 'scrounged' a shopping trolley so that I can walk there instead of driving, and don't get sore arms carrying heavy shopping bags home.

I was a Lidl Plus user, but like others found the vouchers less and less useful over time.
  • Lidl is definitely going downhill. They are struggling to recruit staff locally - maybe that is because they have expanded too fast?

Lidl - 250g plastic bag of pumpkin seeds.
Problem with the quality of the plastic bag - there's a re-sealable plastic closure which, in store, isn't always closed properly when removed from the cardboard box.  It can open and scatter seeds.

We love Lidl smoked tofu and it's the only one we'll buy as a bit of a luxury item for us but we can rarely get it. Either they sell out before we get there or they just don't bother to stock it regularly.
