That's interesting @HillStreetBlues. You've done well to cook everything together while the oven was on and saved a lot with the part baked rolls. 👍

It does make you think about the cost of cooking though. I find it hard to justify something like oven chips (home made, of course) unless I can cook other things at the same time.

I always look carefully at the packs too. I choose the ones with thick, smoked rashers as I cut mine into lardons.

Shame they don't do them in Aldi but I buy a couple of packs at a time when I'm in Asda.
I never thought about the cost of cooking before your post. The oven is mostly used for rolls or a pizza from time to time, nearly everything I eat is zapped in the dinger.
I have a deep fryer for chips and fries and and admit mine are frozen. I tried oven chips a couple of times but wasn't a fan. I do have an unhealthy diet, I count a Terrys chocolate orange as my one-a-day. :D

    We cook wedges at home.
New potatoes with skin left on, quartered and tossed in 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil. You can add herbs if you like.

Has anyone bought the little tins of anchovies in oil from L!dl recently?
I haven't seen them in our local for a number of weeks now and I only have one tin left!
We almost never buy tins (only when completely out and desperate) as it's mostly OH that eats anchovies.  I always look in the "specials" section particularly if they're doing Spanish/Greek/Italian themes as they often have anchovies in little jars.  More expensive than the tins but we'd never use a whole tin in one go and the jars keep for ages in the fridge.  Occasionally they'll have great big sealer jars too and those are also really nice.

Has anybody had any problems with Aldi Diplomat Decaf Tea Bags lately?

    https://groceries.aldi.co.uk/en-GB/p-diplomat-decaf-tea-bags-250g80-pack/4088600290003

I've used them without any problems for years, but with my latest box I'm finding about 50% of them are bursting - which makes for a not so great cuppa! I initially wondered if it may be because they're 100% biodegradable, but it looks as though Aldi made that change back in 2021 so it seems unlikely. Maybe they have a new (not so good) supplier? Or I guess it could just be a dodgy batch.

Thank you, I'll have a swing by the specials aisle next time I'm in.  It's a drawback on L1dl restricted range.  If something goes out of stock, it seems to go out for months.  I buy the anchovies for the OH, (he adds them on home-made pizzas; tuna nicoise, makes a salad dressing with them etc.)  I quite like the tins of anchovies as they contain a small qty. and any left over gets decanted into a small tupperware & put into the fridge.

    @alicef
loads of tins of anchovies in my Lidl today (Christchurch).  Not a particularly big store so maybe they're just not too popular there.  I only noticed because I now have the Lidl app and had a voucher for half price tinned salmon - there was very little of that left!

Relocated recently, and now have a local Aldi ( yay ) after having to choose from Tesco & Mozzers at old place.

Been thru a few pages of the thread, picked up on the Madagascan Vanilla ice cream recommendation

Just wanted to ask if the Aldi version of Lurpak is ok ?   and what about their own brand T-bags ? ( used to buy the Stockwell T-bags at Tesco, they made a decent cuppa imho.
Is the Red Wine well rated at Aldi ?  we tend to drink Malbec or similar....

Appreciate to hear of any " must buys "

    Thanks !

I'm a great fan of Lidl's  What's Cooking? cheese & tomato pasta for 85p add a few chilli flakes to make it my version of arrabiata.
As it's frozen I do let it defrost to save cooking time.
