Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

I've compared Lidl vs Aldi ice creams ('Magnums', 'Cornettos' etc.) this summer, and the Lidl varieties taste much better.2

Last year - have no interest in revisiting the ice-cream section of Aldi based on a combination of my own tastebuds and purseharz99 said:
When did you last do a like for like comparison test?Rosa_Damascena said:
Lidl's icecream is hands down better than Aldi's.harz99 said:
The Aldi version of those seems to have had a change of maker and specifications, as some of their flavours have got sweeter and not as good quality.YoungBlueEyes said:Those Lidl cones Rosa. We buy them, and the mint+choc ones are nicest. The vanilla+nuts ones are a close second, the others are teeth-itchingly sweet

So much to read, so little time.1 -
Not really a valid comment then...we should all know that the own brand foodstuffs are contracted out to all sorts of suppliers, and when contracts change often so do specifications to keep cost down and/or increase profits, some people may prefer these changes others less so.Rosa_Damascena said:

I can't comment about the whipped vegetable fat and chemicals on a stick type ice creams but Aldi's Madagascan vanilla in tubs is every bit as good as the Waitrose one or the equivalent from Morrisons (in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they all came from the same supplier). It is, of course, a lot cheaper.4

Mine said 15 July on the side of the box, purchased on 8 July.Rosa_Damascena said:
I got a couple of boxes in a TGTG bag a while ago. They have sat idly in my fridge ever since. Don't see a date on the pack.Saver73 said:From Aldi marked as new product, Churros with hazelnut choc sauce and cinnamon sugar - delicious!
Though the box said it contained 5 servings. I'd say good for two people to share but could have done with more choc sauce.1 -
Own brand version of Fanta is lovely! Definitely converted over to the cheaper ones now.
Berries go off too quickly - shame as they do taste nice but cant eat a whole punnet before they go off (even if i use the Mason Jar trick)1 -
Therein lies the problem - the box ends were ripped off when they came in the box so there was no info around storage etc to refer to, so I stuck them in the fridge and forgot about them.Saver73 said:

Does cooking bacon exist anymore? Was always a good cheap product to use.
