I do a part-baked roll in oven, when that's nearly done put bacon in oven, once bacon cooked, serve with a bit of brown rocking and it's delicious.Agree it would cost more to cook than the food.
Having part baked rolls saves me money, as I would have to drive to "local" shop to get a fresh roll and the cost of the roll would be far more than the 15p cost of the part baked one and that's not including the petrol. And I'm not giving them up

Youngest is intrigued by cooking bacon (being more accustomed to the expensive neatly sliced stuff) - but he's become a big fan of it for not-sandwiches. A relief as both lads do love the stuff!3

I do have to unravel the slices, then freeze them individually so a can take what I want.
Does take time and effort, but at £1.79 a kg instead of £6-7 a kg, it's worth it.

Oven used 0.4 of a unit so 12½p
Bacon 50g 9p, Roll 15p, Sauce 1p
So 25p for food and 12½p cooking (That did surprise me)

That's interesting @HillStreetBlues. You've done well to cook everything together while the oven was on and saved a lot with the part baked rolls. 👍
It does make you think about the cost of cooking though. I find it hard to justify something like oven chips (home made, of course) unless I can cook other things at the same time.
I always look carefully at the packs too. I choose the ones with thick, smoked rashers as I cut mine into lardons.
Shame they don't do them in Aldi but I buy a couple of packs at a time when I'm in Asda.2 -
Has anyone bought the little tins of anchovies in oil from L!dl recently?I haven't seen them in our local for a number of weeks now and I only have one tin left!Fashion on the Ration 2025 37/661

I have a deep fryer for chips and fries and and admit mine are frozen. I tried oven chips a couple of times but wasn't a fan. I do have an unhealthy diet, I count a Terrys chocolate orange as my one-a-day.
