Interesting they mention Brie (as one of three items) doubling in price, because that's the only item I can think of that even comes close.
Brie is always worth the price you pay!!!  I may be easy but I ain't never been cheap!!!!

Well, I've got £1.69 and Aldi will do me 200g for that.

I wouldn't say it was a particularly good or bad buy, but cheese/dairy seems to be an area where L&A are particularly struggling.

For a few years now, my shopping has been split around 40% Aldi, 40% Morrison, 15% Tesco, 5% others.

I consider myself a canny shopper, and definitely keep a mental track of prices.

Has anyone else found that Aldi prices, especially for some products, have rocketed substantially more (proportionately) than other supermarkets?

Just a few examples, from around early 2021 to now:

Pork loin steaks - £3.89/kg to over £6/kg  (belly and chops also risen by similar percentages)
    Garlic & Herb Soft Cheese - 49p to 99p
Specially Selected Chunky Oven Chips (1.5kg) - £1.79 to £2.89
    12 Medium Free-Range Eggs - around 11p/egg to 19p/egg

Obviously prices across most products in all supermarkets have rocketed (hard not to think there's some price gouging along the chain), but those are in the 60-100% increase bracket.

I don't know about the increase of individual items, but Aldi is still the lowest priced for me. In the space of a couple of weeks in Jan/Feb I priced a selection of the items I buy most, Aldi was £39, Lidl £42, Asda £49 & Tesco £50. I wish I'd done the same a year ago to see how much prices had risen since!

Aldi historically made substantially lower margins than other supermarkets (and kept their overheads substantially lower to balance their books).  That means they have had to raise prices more or less in proportion to the increased costs they're paying suppliers, whereas other supermarkets (believe it or not) have absorbed part of the increase by taking lower margins and only passed on part of the extra cost in the form of higher prices.

I've always bought Dolmio but I really didn't like the last jar I got, so tried Aldi Specially Selected Passata with Basil and Oregano.
Very nice indeed and definitely a regular buy for me from now on. Wouldn't go back to Dolmio.

They do a pasta sauce (jar) with chianti.

    Can you actually taste it?

(Academic question given that I don't cook and always have a bottle of wine on the go!).

Pumpkin89 is right about why Aldi's prices seem to have risen to much. They had a lot less room to manoeuvre when inflation began to bite. However, you have revealed Aldi's secret weapon. Not only are their prices still lower than the competition (usually, not always) but the quality of their own brand products is very high. I write as a onetime 'only Heinz tomato ketchup will do' person who now only buys Aldi's own brand.

Aldi have noticeably increased faster than others. Our shopping is now 50/50 split between there and Sainsbury's. I use Aldi for frozen, alcohol and cleaning stuff whilst Sainsbury's gets the bulk of our general shop now as with Nectar prices and points it can work out cheaper. Plus with general offers things like meat and chocolate can be cheaper.
