Surely if there are potentially other tickets, it's in their interests to play along with you since they can persue the correct party for more. Otherwise you stand firm and offer nothing.

Half_way  I tried that but they require proof of sale, like a recipe for a car, obviously I don't have that :(

All you need is a letter from DVLA confirming the date when you ceased to be the registered Keeper.

One out of three!  SAR is 'Subject Access Request' and NtKs are 'Notices to Keeper'.

Castle, according to Trace company letter from DVLA is not good enough because they (DVLA) will update your records without checking with whatever date you will give them.

You will have to leave it to the Judge to determine then.

If you Have paid them damages for an alleged breach of contract when no contract was in place, you can ask them for a refund.  If they do not comply you can take them to the County Court. where you will almost certainly prevail

    claim/ps://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/legal-system/small-claims/making-a-small-claim/

If they take you to court them for an alleged breach of contract when no contract could  contract exist then they will lose and you could counterclaim for harassment and or misuse of your data,  IIMU that an award of £500 is not uncommon.   However you must be prepared to put in the hours, reading the newbies and fully understanding them is essential.

You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

I don't want any money back I just don't want that ticket and anymore in the future. And DVLA for some reason still gives my details to anyone who asks. Please see the letter from DVLA below. Somehow they didn't receive V5C and now I don't know the address of the new owner so it looks like I will be getting all his tickets for eternity.

So you already have proof that the DVLA are confirming you ceased to own the car in October. You don't need anything else, you have everything. You can and should, claim the money back as well. Literally, all you have to do is tell them.
