  • Thanks. :D

I still haven't come down from cloud nine...but I'm having to try and make plans now, as I start a week on Monday!

The most important thing is finding myself somewhere to live, although given the short notice I'm planning on booking into a B&B for the first week or so. I do have my eye on a lovely little cottage, but I'm yet to contact the agents so don't know when it would be possible to view.

I forgot to say yesterday, the job is with ebuyer.com, working in Howden, yorkshire.

    Congratulations on your new job!

  • Thank you. :)

The wheels are certainly all in motion now...My current employer has been given notice that I will finish next Friday (as I was effectively redundant last week anyway, they didn't even need this much notice - but I did to sort out accomodation etc.)

I've been frantically searching for somewhere to live, however most letting agents expect a few weeks for the application process, which I don't have. I placed an ad on Gumtree earlier and received a call about an hour ago to see whether I was interested in a postgrad flat in Hull...I'm viewing on Sunday and if I like what I see, I can take the keys then. :D I wasn't sure about shared accomodation again, however it's so ridiculously cheap that I've got to at least have a look.

Apart from that, I have at least 4 other properties which I am extremely interested in...including the quaint cottage I mentioned earlier and a little secluded duplex in Hull. I can't wait to get something sorted so that I can stop worrying about it, and start feeling nervous about the job instead! lol

If the worst comes to the worst, I'll book into a B&B for a week - at least I'll have a base up there then, and a cooked breakfast every morning. :D

Hi Marc feel really excited for you. Hope you get some accommodation sorted. Have you thought of staying in a Travelodge ? Rooms are very reasonable and there is usually a Little Chef nearby for cooked brekkie. Please keep us posted with how you are getting on. Btw did you get that possible identity fraud business sorted ? X El

  • Hi El,

I did check out Travelodge first...but they wanted the best part of £50 per night! There's a small local B&B literally 2 mins walk from work which only costs £24 per night including breakfast, so can't really go wrong at that. :D

Still working on the ID fraud problems, but I'm getting there slowly. I got the CCJ against me cancelled, which was the important thing and the anomylous data is slowly being removed from my credit files.
  • I'm amazed at the response to my Gumtree ad already. As well as the postgrad flat I mentioned earlier, I'm also in email conversation with a potential Landlord in a quiet little village close to where I'd be working, who owns what sounds like a fantastic character property...looks like I've a busy weekend of viewings ahead of me! :D

Hmm with Travelodge you have to book 2/3 weeks in advance to get the cheap rooms don't you.

What kind of rent are you looking at in the area?

  • What kind of rent are you looking at in the area?

Obviously the rent will vary depending on the type of property (flat, house, cottage etc.) and whether furnished or not, but I've set myself a top end budget of £535 and would ideally like to keep it below £500. There are a couple of very nice looking cottages below £450 too!! :D

Everything's now official, my starter pack and contract arrived yesterday and the signed copy has gone straight back into the post. I've got a series of property viewings tomorrow, so will post an update tomorrow evening.
