I suppose so....  If it wears out, it is wear & tear by definition- never mind how long it should last.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Isn't that a 'lifetime warranty'?  As in when it wears out or breaks then it's the end of its life ;)

  • We are not well served when it comes to warranties, though. My son who lives in the USA bought a truck to tow his caravan, and the truck has a ten year warranty, excluding consumables.

    It's not a manufacturer warranty.
Some USA Ford dealers are offering a 10 year / 150000 mile warranty on engine/transmission, but it's them doing it themselves through a third party warranty provider.
Like a dealer here offering you a free 'warranty direct' policy for 10 years.
So it's comparing apples with oranges.
No-one is doing a full manufacturer, whole car 10 year warranty.

If Land Rover offered a 5 year warranty they'd go under.
They drive well, look good and have status, but a good product they are not.

I'm always a little sceptical of these surveys anyway.
I can't help thinking 'customer expectation' comes into play a lot, and someone spending £45K on a Land rover/BMW/Audi is going to be more critical of minor problems than someone who's bought a cheaper 'white goods' car.
Well, yes. If I'd spent £45k on a car, I think I would have higher expectations, and be more intolerant of minor problems, than if I had paid £5k.  :)
