If it's capped at £2,500, then the rumour is that the £400 rebate will still be applied, as plans for that are so advanced now.
Sp the 'real' cap would be £2100.
Minus Green Levies which Ms Truss pledged to halt during leadership campaign

Ms Truss also said that there would be no adjustment of the cap, so I wouldn't be so certain.

She said a lot of things that enabled her to get the backwoodsmen (and women) party vote to go in her favour. That no longer matters: her priority now is to get the party re-elected in 2 years. Her record shows great ability to switch ideology to suit the prevailing conditions, which might explain why she is the sole survivor from Cameron's cabinet.
Doing a rapid U-turn on energy may be just the start.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Exactly, I wouldn't start subtracting or adding anything based on statements from the campaign.

If they cap all energy purchased regardless of tariff, then those who took later trackers like the 16p gas and 55p electric will be happy, as they still get the price dips, but now with lower caps. :)
That would be nice, but I don't see it happening.

It cannot be a freeze on anything other than SVT, as otherwise the taxpayer would be subsidising the supplier's most expensive fixes. The only possible change affecting fixes is that suppliers might have to void any current exit fees on their fixes, to allow people to return to 'frozen SVT' without penalty.

Thinking about this, if they are subsidising tariffs that are cheaper than the October cap then they are saving money, this assumes fixers will move to SVR/SVT after the announcement.

So e.g. if I stay on Agile and the freeze is 33p, they subsidising me 2p unit.

If I move to SVR to get that 33p rate, they subsidising me about 20p unit.  The former is cheaper.
